Hi all,

I made the mistake of applying to way more schools than I am interested in because I was being an overachiever. But in reality my dream school is my state school which, with my stats/ECs, I have a great shot at getting into. So I am wondering if I can switch to EDP status in AMCAS after submitting. I submitted about a week ago and it is still unverified. Despite this fact, I have already received one secondary but have not submitted that yet.

I know you can add/change med schools and "program types", as AMCAS words it, but does that mean you can switch to EDP? And if I do switch, will this "not count" as EDP because I initially submitted AMCAS once with more than just that school, because some info was obviously already transmitted to schools already (since I received a secondary)?

Thankyouthankyou

Hi,

I actually have the same question. Were you able to figure out if this is possible?

Does your school do early decisions?

Also, you should always apply to more school - no matter how great your chances so it's a good thing. My first time applying, I only applied to one school because all my stats were above their average - didn't get in :/ gap year!

EDP puts you at a disadvantage because usually the stats for the school is higher than their average accepted/matriculant. If you're rejected, then your application gets released later in the year and you will be mostly late to other schools.

If you're confident enough about getting in to your state school through Early Decision, then you should definitely be able to get in through regular admissions and get an early interview invite and acceptance.

But as for your question about changing it, you can call up AMCAS and ask because you can't really change anything in your application now but if its already submitted then I highly doubt it since they let you make no more changes except for adding letters, schools and personal information.

Thanks for all the advice guys! It seems like it wouldn't have made sense for me to apply EDP anyway. But I looked into this and you CANNOT remove schools from AMCAS once submitted, to answer the question.

"You may add medical school choices or designations to your submitted application. Medical school additions or program changes can be made at any time, as long as the deadline for the school you wish to add has not passed."

Wanting to clarify if program switches include EDP to regular or vice versa.
