I was recently admitted to a DO program, and I now have an interview for an MD program scheduled for January. I also am waiting to hear back from a fair amount other schools. Now that I have been admitted to a program and know that I will be going to medical school, I have been considering leaving my job as a medical scribe which I have worked at for over a year and possibly returning to my old position as a lab tech at a medicinal chemistry research laboratory. My thinking is now that my freedom is about to be pretty much gone once I begin medical school, I would like to spend my remaining months working at a job where I do not have to work evenings and weekends. I also kinda miss the thinking that goes along with doing bench research. My concern is how would be perceived by by the other schools I applied to if I left my job in a clinical setting mid-cycle to go back to research? On my AMCAS, I said that planned to continuing to scribe up to matriculation, would it be a ding to my application if I left. Thank you in advance for your help!
COMMENTS:
You already had more than enough active clinical experience at the time of application for you to meet expectations, and you added to that up to this point.
Future hours are not considered in interview or admissions decisions.
We know that "life happens" and plans change.
Your reason is good.
It's fine to go with the better hours.
Research may be beneficial to applications, too.

Not sure it matters.

Isn't scribing more flexible when it comes to hours if you arrange ahead of time with your supervisors? There are scribes I see who do work regular clinic hours around hospitals but I don't know your situation. Getting back into lab for such a short time is not really productive for me if I were the investigator.
