I just realized that the last 11 DO schools on this list have their app. deadline in March & April, so if I take the Jan31 MCAT and get my scores late Feb can I use that score to apply and still get accepted for 2010 ?

Yes you can, but their aren't exactly a lot of spots left at that time. You might be interviewing for wait lists at some schools.

Oh my Goood .. are u for reals ??

I am just happy that I still have a strand of hope 😳

any body else can confirm this please !! because I know this is not possible for Allopathic schools

I hope this isn't too harsh, but I wouldn't waste the money. January MCAT means you and the schools won't get the results until February.

be as harsh as u want, I just need accurate info.

I dont see a problem !! the deadlines are in March and April.. I can fill out the apps and once I get my score in Feb ..I can just submit .. right ?

I know I will be late, but at least I will apply this cycle .

Check the information for each school and it tells you if they accept the Jan 2010 mcat.

Well it would be fine if med schools had a normal admissions, but they don't. They have rolling admission, which means that they don't wait until the deadline and then look at everyone's applications, rather they begin reviewing applications as soon as they come in and begin accepting students in September with the plan of having their class filled along with a large waitlist by the time march/april come.

So yeah you'll be complete in February, but then they still have to review your application along with the thousands of other applications that have been submitted since the previous summer. If at that point they give you an interview, typically you won't be able to get in for 3-6 weeks, which puts your interview at march/april. Now you can see that your chances of actually getting a spot are very slim and you'd prob be interviewing for a handful of spots. Not to say that it's impossible, just not that probable. Good luck tho with whatever you decide to do!!👍

It's my understand that those deadlines are more a formality than anything. You will be applying to wait lists. I also missed the part about it being January 31st. Your score will not be released until March 🙁

Why not use the money you would have spent on this and take a CNA class?

Ok, this is a little crazy but bear with me.

(Keep in mind I have taken the sept MCAT but did poorly on it)

is it possible to submit the aacomas twice ?
in the first time I would apply only to the Oct 1st - Feb deadlines (with the poor score)

then take the MCAT (hopefully do well)
then submit the aacomas for the second time to apply for the March-April deadlines ?

Actually you don't need to submit it a second time. You would just add those schools from the list when you wanted it submitted to them.

How poorly did you do the first time? Has anything changed that makes you think you would do better?

teens 🙁

I think something will change in the 3 coming month.. there were many things that went wrong during my first preparation.. I think I can do well if I avoid my past mistakes

I would really, really consider if you'll be able to change things enough in that time to make your time and money worth it.

I would definitely consider waiting until the following cycle to apply because by the time you get your scores back you will be at a significant disadvantage for a spot at any school. I'm not saying its impossible to get a spot, but its definitely a HUGE gamble at that point in the cycle.

ok I'm confused...why do schools with Feb 1st primary application deadlines state in the OMC info book that they accept January 2010 MCAT...I understand the scores take about a month to come in, which is after the deadline...but it says they accept them? can anyone clear this up for me...thanks!

I think because you can submit your secondary before the deadline to schools without your MCAT scores and have them wait until your scores get in.

even if just a waitlist spot, there will be a big shift during the end May or even July? so... but yea I really wonder what kind of applicants do schools look for during that late of cycle?

Lets say I really want to apply for this cycle and not wait another year

what option is safest :

1. apply early with a poor score ?

2. apply late with a good score (lets assume I do good on the retake) ?

You can apply with a poor score now. I'm not sure what your definition of poor is.

On the AACOMAS application there is a space to indicate your intent to retake the MCAT on January 31st. If you decide to apply, most likely the schools will put your application aside and wait to review it until after your score from the January 31, 2010 MCAT is released in early March.

Between now and then your AACOMAS application will be verified. You will be very busy completing secondary applications and getting your Letters of Recommendations in. This is time consuming. You will be sacrificing precious time that could be better spent studying for the MCAT and taking AAMC practice tests. That is the best way to prepare. If you are still in college, your grades need to come first.

My opinion is that you are better off not applying this cycle. Those persons who apply late have to compete with MD applicants who have high MCAT scores and good grades who might not have gotten accepted at an MD school. Unless your application is steller, there are lots of applicants trying to compete for very few seats left. Some schools in March/April have filled their class and are interviewing that late to fill a wait list. The vast majority of seats are filled by the end of December or January at the latest.

I agree with previous posts. Your chances are slim but not impossible. What you decide is up to you. If you do apply, get everything in so your files are complete at every school to which you decide to apply - less of course your January MCAT score.

Good luck

Ok, I know you just have your heart set on applying for this coming fall, but I really do not think this is the best option for you. You said your mcat score was in the teens, so if you submit now, many schools would reject you pre-secondary for being below their minimum application requirements. If you wait until January to submit your AACOMAS, it might be a good 8-10 weeks after that until the application is verified and then the schools need to review it and send you secondaries so it would not be until March when your application is complete. This is too late.

Plus I think that trying to apply for fall 2010 just puts too much pressure on you and this one MCAT. I dont want you to panic and freak out while studying because you have to do good or else.

What if in january you take the MCAT and only get in the mid 20's? I hope this doesnt happen, but you need to keep it in mind! I think it would be better for you to study your booty off and do really well on the January MCAT and apply for the next application cycle. Then you can still take the mcat again later in the spring if you need to and you will have plenty of time to get your application ready for submission in early june. I think even with a mid-high 20's mcat you have a decent shot at acceptance if you get your application in very early.

Keep in mind that the unofficial application date is around September 1st for medical school. If you're not in by then, your chances are much much lower.

I had a classmate go through the CIB and organize the data onto one page about this topic. I'll post it here to save you the time of going through it school by school in the book.
