I am applying to med schools in the spring but will be a graduating senior, so will have a gap year. Can I apply to SMPs for matriculation in fall 2017 using my med school app? If I am getting a committee letter for med school can I just use that for smp apps or do I need to ask for new letters of recommendation etc? I'm not really sure how the process works

You can't literally use your AMCAS .pdf to apply to SMPs, but you could hypothetically reuse the "why medicine" essay and activity descriptions (if the school asks for them).

Once your committee letter is written, you might be able to use it to apply to SMPs, but I don't think that's guarunteed. I'm sure that's a school-specific policy, so ask your school if that's okay. Furthermore, since SMPs are not med schools, your grad school app might ask for specific LORs from past professors, and your committee letter might not work.

The process is different for every school and every SMP, so make sure you have all your ducks in a row by being proactive and contacting schools directly with questions (read their websites first).
