I've heard some people say that you can write during the 15 minute tutorial at the begining? Is this true? I was hoping to prepare my boards for the PAT with the grids for hole punch and the t-table for cubes. What about during the break? Can I use that to set up my board for the reading section?

I know they have cameras but it didn't seem like they would tell you to stop writing once you're actually in the testing room.

Yes and yes

Unless your testing center outright tells you not to. For me; however, I didn't ask and just did it and they had no problem.

I called a week before and was told no. I needed to readjust all my strategies. On test day I was reminded again that I was not allowed to write anything down until I see the first question. This was frustrating, but it worked in my favor. For the keyhole and especially the angle ranking I was spending too much time on them and getting questions wrong (~18-20 on bootcamp). When I was not able to prepare my grids and whatever before the exam I had to rush through them. This prevented me from second guessing and seeing things wrong. I was able to get 24.

PS I was not able to write anything during my break too. They also did not let me erase anything and I had to raise my hand every time I needed a new board (this was honestly the worst for the QR section). I would recommend preparing for the worst case scenario.

I couldn't write anything during tutorial, but I was able to finish the science sections early enough for me to draw in the grids.

I waited till the day of to ask, "Hey, you guys don't mind if I start marking these sheets up do you, right?"

for your break, just ask again since you are gonna have a minute or two to jot some things down.

The thing for mine, is that they have no idea if you are doing the tutorial or the test. The tutorial has "fake" questions so you can get used to it. You can write whatever you want, as far as they are concerned you are already taking your test.
