Somewhat related question, how do you feel about psychologists (PsyD/PhD) prescribing medication?

My personal opinion, I would rather be well paid for the skills I spent two decades learning and improving. However, medicare just instituted another 7% cut to psychotherapy payments for 2021 and has reduced payments more than 30% since 2001 adjusted for inflation. It used to be $102 and is currently $86 not accounting for the upcoming drop. This latest 7% drop was done to reimburse physicians more money for E&M codes. We have taken hits in other areas as well. People need to eat. If you can't beat em....

The problem with all training, including medical school, is that curricula are developed historically rather than through evidence base. Med school curricula is not created by doing a job study, identifying each and every job task, deriving the most effective way to train people for those tasks, and then delivering that. Because we don’t know what is the “best” training and because we are all likely over educated for what we do, the professionals end up in some stupid micturiton/voiding contest (term depends on if I am channeling a parent or my PI from the med school).

Then again, I always thought that surgeons should have a different education than other physicians.
