So, I'm pretty sure that medical schools you apply to in the same cycle can see if you've been accepted elsewhere, just from people posting that schools have contacted them asking if they want to remain on their waitlist despite being accepted elsewhere. My question is, if someone receives an acceptance this time around but chooses to forego it, take a year and reapply, will schools the next time around see that you gave up an acceptance?

Thanks!

why would you do this? all US MD/DO med schools teach the same stuff (essentially) and have high pass rates for the step exams.

if you have an acceptance, you should take it (unless a low tier Carib schools and you think you have a good shot at a US MD/DO school) save $$$, save time.

Yes, towards the end of the cycle schools will be able to see where you've been accepted.

With respect to this hypothetical plan, it's a patently stupid idea and you would be well-served to simply take the acceptance you have. As the saying goes, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Some schools will ask if you have ever "matriculated", and some schools will ask if you have ever "been accepted" at a school. With respect to schools seeing past acceptances beyond a current cycle, it will vary.

Thanks for the advice and info, everybody. And just to shed some light on why I'd consider making this "stupid" decision, I've got some extenuating circumstances (like splitting up my family) that make it a more difficult situation than it may seem.

You can defer your acceptance at many many schools. Choose to do that route. You really dont want to lose a spot in a US MD school.
