Hey Everyone,

I have accumulated over 400 shadowing hours however I was lucky enough to be paid. Can I still list my shadowing hours as volunteering hours as well? Thanks!

I'd love to meet a dentist that pays me to follow him around all day.....and to answer your question probably not. Even unpaid shadowing wouldn't be considered volunteering, just shadowing.

If you get paid it's called work. Volunteering is what you do for free. But you can count it as shadowing (but sjv is probably right about not putting it twice under work and shadowing since you should not be getting paid for shadowing).

What if you shadow and have more than 100 hours but not many volunteering hours? Can you count the current shadowing gig as volunteering? There is some hands on work with setting up rooms between patients, sterilizing, and occasionally assisting the dentist.

You can't double dip, shadowing is shadowing.

Yes you can!! Please triple dip if you have to. Doesn't determine anything. Anything goes.
Listing the same experience under multiple categories?...doubt that would work in your favor.

What if you shadow at two different offices? Can one be considered shadowing and the other as volunteering?

The section titles are: Dentistry/Shadowing Experience vs. Extracurricular/Volunteer/Community Service. Both should be under shadowing

There is a reason for having separate sections on the application for volunteering & shadowing. Or is there.
