hi, im a teen from the west coast, recently me and my friend had gotten into a car accident, but i dont have any insurence and chose not to goto the emergency room because i was barely scratched.

my friend had just gotten his liscense and he took me for a ride, he was doing maybe 65-70 and the front wheels started swerving, the front right wheel went down, and we rolled to the right, away from oncoming traffic. we then hit a dip seperating two seperate roads, we must have rolled atlease 2 times. the car ended up sideways, lying on my passenger door. i exited the back window which was blown out. now, the only injury i had, was a glass cut, after the accident trying to push the car on its wheels after putting out the engine fire.

during the accident i was concious and ushed my right leg against the room to brace myself, i had realized that i was shaking around pretty hard.

we are very lucky to walk away from this with nothing more than cuts.

i do understand that car accidents shake up your internal organs. now, i have a pain on my lower left side, on the lower ribs. maybe 1 or 2, it hurts when i stretch upwards, and if i tilt on it a certain way. there is no discoloration. i have no dirareah, its only been a day, i can unrinate fine. i assumed that the pain came from the seatbelt, because thats the area where it connected to the car. and i have some kind of bruising on my right knee, a scratch also, im not entirely sure if it was from bracing my leg on the roof or if it was after i exited.

all im worried about, is if that accident could have done something to me internally. what kind of cheap treatment can i do. i have no kind of health plan.

it is probably inappropiate for me to post this here, but i dont know where to turn for advice.

Go to the ER just to be safe. They see thousands of people each year who never pay their bills. One more isn't going to make a difference and there is no way we can diagnose you over the internet.

You should go to the ER and be seen by a physician. You can have injuries to internal organs with that history. I realize the financial concerns, but your health should come first. You can look into whether your friend's (or other car driver's if one was involved) auto insurance will cover medical bills after you've received care.

I went to visit my friend who is a massage therapist. shes going to take me to where she works, and have the chiropractors check me out. she said they will do some x-rays.

if i went to the ER now, and get checked out by a physician do you guys thikn the cost would be great, would i have the right to doctor-patient confidentiality?

You sound like a ruptured spleen. You can bleed to death. Please forget any financial issues and legal issues (immigration, I know) and go to your county hospital. We see illegals every day and nothing happens.

we can't diagnose you online, but a ruptured spleen is a SERIOUS possibility here given what you've said; this is a common injury after car accidents. this is a life-threatening injury. a chiropractor CANNOT help you with a ruptured spleen; if this does end up being what you have, you will need to be evaluated by a surgeon. you need to go to the emergency room immediately. if you go to the emergency room of your local hospital, they legally cannot deny you any medical care that you need emergently, no matter what. if you have a public/county hospital nearby, it is better to go there; they see uninsured patients ALL THE TIME.

you said your situation is complex; i'm not sure if you're in the country illegally, but even if that's the case, they still can't deny you emergency medical care. if you're afraid of your parents finding out or something, this is much more important than that.

like i said, it's impossible to diagnose you online; i hope you don't have anything this serious....but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Please also bear in mind that even if a chiropractor were qualified to examine and diagnose you, a set of xrays is not all that is required in this case. Solid organ injuries are common in the situation you describe. A plain xray will not give you much information regarding solid organ injury; you'll need a CT scan of your abdo/pelvis at least.

At any rate, what others have said is correct; your situation is hardly unique. Please see treatment at your nearest county hospital ED.

damn... this is not sounding good. i just wanted to keep that whole night as umm, private as possible. my friend did not have consent to use of that vehicle. the pain has started to spread from left to right, i have a pain on my neck now, i havent noticed it earlier.

i dont mean to bring you guys any more of these kinds of post. i rarely see any doctors, and im not an illegal. ill try and do something this evening. thank you, and i apologize, hopefully no more post of this type will be made

Good question. As you know anyone can get sued for anything but I've really never seen anyone on SDN say anything really irresponsible (in terms of giving medical advice, the everyone forum is another story entirely). I suppose if you represented yourself as a doc qualified to deal with a particular problem and then advised the person to do something grossly wrong then you could be held liable but it would still be a stretch as the person should be expected to take any advice from a web forum with semi-annoymous users with skepticism. I'd liken it to people who get advice from call in radio show hosts.

People should understand how important a ER is to everyone in our society. Do support bills that will benefit the practice of emergency room.
oh, by the way, to the op, go to ER right away and get the CT scan of the abdomin.

i honestly beleive that the American quality of life would be better if we adopted the medical standards that they have in Canada, or Sweeden. i got checked out, he did a bunch of routine stuff (murphy's punch, etc), i honestly can't say that his diagnosis will hold up in the long run, but im find. he poked around my stomach, all i felt was tickling. there have been no signs of blood in my spool. its now 4 days. im tippy toe'ing around the legal system to make ends meet for me. I just don't want anyone penalized for my actions, nor do i want to be penalized for some one else's negligence. i found my friend and hes fine, he told me they did the same kind of things to him (poking in the stomach region), he was also cleared for now. i have to have a conferrence with the few people involved to come to an agreement about how to take action in this situation now. the doctor who checked me out, is saying that i should get more treatment just incase, i just want to take a bunch of omega3 vitamins, i dont want to get the insurence company nor the law involved at this time.

thank you, all of you, for the concern and the advice. all have you have guided me through a traumatic time of my young life.
