Can someone confirm that this is a good course of action? (AMCAS)

So I'm applying this cycle and I am awaiting my MCAT scores that are coming out on July 24. I want to submit somewhere within this week or next week but I'm slightly worried that this might hurt me if my MCAT score is not high enough. I have a strange feeling that this MCAT won't be enough for me.

Anyways, I am planning to do the usual thing where I submit to only one school for verification purposes and add more schools when the MCAT score comes. If my MCAT score is too low, I will not submit to other schools and retake the exam in August. If that score is high enough, then I will add more schools.

I just have a few concerns:

1. If I retake, the score comes back in September. If it is that late, will it still be worth applying this cycle? It just seems really late.

2. If I do it like the above and don't apply due to being late then I'll become a reapplicant for no reason. 🙁

3. Will MCAT still allow a new MCAT score after submission or am I stuck with the first score?

Thank you in advance.

1. September is late -- but it's not prohibitively late if you get all your secondaries in ASAP. The real date that matters is when your application is complete at the individual schools. I'd suggest pre-writing your secondaries before even receiving them so you can submit and be complete at each school ASAP. Also, on your AMCAS application you can indicate that you have a future MCAT scheduled.

2. 😕

3. Your new scores will be added to your application. You can indicate on your application that you are taking another MCAT at a later date

Pre-writing secondaries will only work if you know what they are asking. SDN does collect this info by school I believe, so check out the schools you intend to apply to and get those questions. I took the MCAT on August 4th and it was not too late for me. Having said that, my statistical chances were greatly reduced by not having my application in early. (Two out of three sets of acceptances for my school had already gone out before my application went to the committee.)
