Can someone create/link me a "master" list of to-do's to be very competitive?

I know there are a lot of pre-reqs out there and such. But do any of you follow a certain check list of things to do to be as far ahead of the game as possible?

I'd like a nice link or a good list that I can follow. Preferably if there are specifics on what other courses I could take to boost my marketability, as well as extra-curriculars that are valuable, volunteer/intern diversity, stuff like that.

Thanks. Also, I know everyone needs to strive for great grades and a good GRE, but do any of you focus on getting say, over 100 hours of volunteer, or just as many as you can? Do you focus on doing extra-curric. stuff here and there, or an X amount?

I just want to be as competitive as possible because I know that everyone else will fight tooth and nail to get in. I will be transferring to finish up my last two years of a BS in Exercise Science and so I want a decent game plan.

Why not do your some research and make your own checklist like everyone else?

I've done a good amount of research. I have compiled a pretty large amount of info and was wondering if someone had put together a convenient list. I can make my own, I was just asking. Thanks.

Then compare your list with what you've found on this forum and you'll be golden.

Before applying:

By far, most important thing is cumulative GPA and pre-req GPA. Study hard and make those as high as possible. GRE is also important, study hard and do well.

Try to have your observation hours done by the summer you are applying. Try for about 3-5 settings, with at least 1 acute setting.

Know who your references are, and what types of references your top choice schools require (some require 1 employer, 1 PT, etc). Usually the combination that covers all of this is 1-2 PTs, 1 employer, and 1 professor. Make sure they will write good LoRs.

As soon as the application cycle starts, start completing your application. Spend a good amount of time writing your essay.

Know the deadlines of all your schools.

If you have any questions, CALL THE SCHOOL, they are happy to help with any questions.

That's about it. I think the last thing I want to stress is that GPA and GRE are by far the most important things. They will account for the majority of your application score. These two things should be your priority over all others.

hey!

in addition to what everyone else has said, I would suggest checking out www.ptcas.org (http://www.ptcas.org/Directory/)

since a lot of schools participate in PTCAS, PTCAS will have a list of:

1. what each school looks for in terms of which pre-reqs (such as some schools require 1 psych course but others require 2)

2. which settings each school requires for hours (some schools require you do to an acute setting and will only count it as "completed" if you do 40 hours)

3. who they will accept letters of recs from (some schools will accept two from PTs instead of requiring two from professors)

4. whether or not they require the GREs

5. lastly, whether or not they are rolling admissions or not & if there is a supplemental due

Again, always call the school if you have questions!

good luck!!
