Although only kind of halfway through my sophomore year, I'm really lacking on my EC's. I was planning to spend about a week this summer working as a counselor at Woodward skateboard camp, but was thinking that it may be better to skip it and work maybe at a clinic or something (I'm basically going because its a week vacation that you get paid for, if your a skateboarder). But I just realized, could I use this as an EC? I realize this would be maybe at the bottom of my list, and would need to be supplemented with other things, but would I be able to use "worked as a camp counselor" on my app?

You don't have anything better to put down?

A week, once, is not a big deal. Just go to camp and do clinic later.

Teaching something for a week is not going to have much positive impact on your application. I wouldn't bother to list it. Volunteering or working in a medical environment for the summer, especially if continued during the school year, would be much more helpful. You need to demonstrate that you've had meaningful experiences that helped you decide medicine is the right career path for you.

I always wanted to go to Woodward. If I had a medical school I would let you in if you took me there...

I disagree, especially since you've got awhile before you are going to apply. Have fun with Woodward, it's only a week. It may not be terribly "significant", but you can and probably should eventually list it as an experience. It's obviously something important to you, demonstrates leadership and communication skills, and shows you have passions outside of medicine/science. These are all positives that you want on an application.

Now, don't disregard the clinic/ER. Start volunteering in a medical setting and get involved in the community. Eventually, get some job shadowing in. But it doesn't have to be one thing or another and it certainly doesn't make sense to keep everything specifically related to medicine when that's not who you are.

+1. 👍

A one-week experience is not space-worthy as an employment activity. You could list skateboarding under hobbies if this is a long term activity for which the camp is one small portion. But if attending the camp means you won't be eligible for other summer-long activites, don't do it (but you can still list the hobby without the camp).
