can type 1 diabetic receive hpsp

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was "permanently disqualified" at MEPS due to having very poor vision before LASIK surgery. However, the Air Force said this was not a problem and just went to the Surgeon General to do some sort of override. I would contact an HPSP recruiter to get more info on this if I were you; if they don't know the answer, they should be able to find out...

just as a point of reference, the physicians on my ship try to get anyone with diabetic proclivities over the brow as soon as possible. we simply cannot support IDDM or non-IDDM conditions in the stressful environment of shipboard life. not enough reliable lab work available, no way to refrigerate meds properly, no way to stock enough meds in our storerooms and pharmacy.

even though we are the primary care contact for everyone stationed aboard the ship, we are essentially a floating field hospital. long term chronic care is limited!
