just as a point of reference, the physicians on my ship try to get anyone with diabetic proclivities over the brow as soon as possible. we simply cannot support IDDM or non-IDDM conditions in the stressful environment of shipboard life. not enough reliable lab work available, no way to refrigerate meds properly, no way to stock enough meds in our storerooms and pharmacy.
even though we are the primary care contact for everyone stationed aboard the ship, we are essentially a floating field hospital. long term chronic care is limited!
