I would like to submit my application now so that the transcript part can get verified. However, there are a few doctors I'm going to shadow in a few weeks and would like to add that to my work / activities.
I figured I could submit the application as is to a school I'm not too concerned with that way AMCAS will verify my transcripts. Then after I accomplish more work / activities, I could update my application with that information and add the medical schools I actually care about, then resubmit it. Is that possible?

Thank you.

After submission the PS and Activities section can't be changed. You can however easily add additional schools.

You can update schools about new activities through Secondary essays that give you that opportunity or through update letters, where they are permitted.

Yeah I knew you could always add new schools, but that's not the point, the point is to update the activities sections. I guess that's not possible. Thank you for your reply. In your opinion, do you think it's better to submit the application as early as possible or wait an extra 3-4 weeks to gain extra shadowing? As of now I only have 15 hours.

Since shadowing doesn't need to be a regular activity, and it's acceptable to acquire hours belatedly and in large amounts, I'd suggest you get in a lot of hours very quickly until you have a total of 40 hours (including the 15 already racked up), then submit. It shouldn't take 3-4 weeks.

Regarding shadowing, is it ok to put it in different slots on AMCAS? Or does it have to be grouped?

I suggest not using more than two spaces. Grouping is typical, but on rare occasion an applicant has such a profound experience with an inspirational physician that they want to expound in detail on the activity. If they have the space, it's understandable they might choose to use it for that purpose.

I am in same boat. I live in Portland Or. Any tips on getting shadowing in less than 3-4 weeks? I was hoping to apply end of June, and only have 7 hours of shadowing. I'd love any tips so it won't take me 3-4 weeks. 😀

Ask your childhood doc, the physicians of your parents (through your parents), the physician parent of a friend. Offer to colunteer at a local Ready Med/UrgiCare in exchange for a shadowing opportunity.

I will follow your suggestions for the ready med/urgicare. Thank you. The other options are not available to me. I am a non trad living far away from home/parents. We have no physician friends/family members...if only i was so lucky!

Let us know if that works out. I don't suggest that option often and haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere more than once in the last year, so hopefully, the market isn't saturated yet.

you must have given me good vibes. I found a doc to shadow! Cannot believe it. Very happy. I cold called.
