Can you apply with an April score, then submit an August one?

How does this work? Do you have to indicate that you're planning to retake? If so, does this "hold up" your app -- meaning that they don't even start to look at it until you've sent in the new score? Or can you simply file the application with your April score, then send in your August one if you haven't already been accepted or outright rejected?

I think there's a spot of the application where to can check whether or not you are planning to take the August MCAT. Supposedly, if you do check the box, then your file won't be considered until your August score come in.

so if i really hadn't decide to take it until i submitted the AMCAs, i.e. if I hadn't check the box and only decide later that I will take it, what happens then?
would they still re-review my application if i send them my august scores later?

This is what I'm wondering. If they completely hold up your app if you've checked the box, then there's little point in applying early anyway. But what if you submit it as complete, then while it's still pending (or you're waitlisted, say), you send in an updated score? They just throw it out?

Well remember the first day to send out applications is June 1st, but secondaries don't start coming until right after 4th of July. Last year it was July 6th. I'll ask REL to find out when they come out when it gets to be closer to June. But at any rate......

This means, that you won't be late to turn in your application if you wait til score release in June. So I'd wait for your April scores. Now if they don't turn out to be what you wanted and you think you'll be retaking, you will just check the box that says taking August MCAT.

At this point, you may still send in your application so that they have reviewed over everything else and may begin secondaries despite of the MCAT score not being released yet. Here at USF, what REL does is as follows:

He will send applicants an email saying to confirm that they meet the minimum requirements. If they respond with the fact that they do meet these requirements he'll give you a secondary. Even if you haven't gotten scores yet, you just indicate that you have met the requirements pending and they'll give you the secondary. If after score release you don't meet the requirements they'll disqualify you, but if you have met it, then you are ahead of the ball game by having turned in everything early.

That's the best I can do t resummarize why you should still submit things early.

Thanks, that's helpful. I took yesterday's test on fairly short notice (~2 weeks of studying), hoping to get a "decent enough" score that I could apply this summer and not have my app tossed out, and then supplement it later on with a (hopefully) better score from August. I feel pretty confident that I got a 30+, so it seems like I did the right thing.

If your first MCAT is above the minimum and your file is complete we will consider your file for an interview. If you dont get an interview by the time the August scores are out we will update your file with the (hopefully higher) MCAT score and continue to consider you for an interview. We'll look at the highest single test score as we consider files for interview.
