i am going to be applying to med schools 2 years post grad and am pursuing a master's degree. was wondering if it would be ok to ask professors within the masters' program for LORs, esp if i haven't kept too much in contact with my undergrad professors?
would grad school prof letters hold less weight than those written by undergrad profs?

Look at what each school requires for their LOR's (it will say it on MSAR or somewhere on that schools admissions page), but it's probably fine. I only had one individual letter that was from an undergraduate professor. My committee letter was written by my graduate school. I didn't get a committee letter from my undergraduate, so the LOR from the undergraduate prof. was just lumped in with the committee letter from grad school.

1. First, review the specific LOR requirements of each medical school to which you intend to submit an application.

2. LORs from professors who know you well and can directly comment about your ability and qualifications to succeed as an aspiring physician are acceptable.

3. In general, most medical schools often prefer at least one LOR written by science professors or require a Pre-Medical Committee letter.

4. Otherwise, a meaningful LOR can be prepared by professors who have taught you courses in graduate school and who know you well, or by individuals who have worked with you in a research setting (e.g., PI), or in other settings, such as a clinical venue, community service activities, professional employment, extracurricular activities, armed services (e.g., by a Commanding Officer), humanitarian service (e.g., Peace Corps supervisor), etc.
