I'm seriously considering entering the field of anesthesiology, but I have a couple of reservations I was hoping someone could help address. As a practicing anesthesiologist, can you work for yourself and be in the position to make your own schedule, increase your salary, etc or are you limited to working for others, such as a hospital, plastic surgeon, private group, etc?
In other words, what are the possible working options for an anesthesiologist if he/she wants to ultimately work for her/his self?
Can someone also shed light on what the logistics of joining an anesthesiology group are- how do you get hired, is there room for financial and partner growth, how do you divide up the work, call schedule and time off, etc? If anyone can delve into these specifics as it pertains to practicing in California, that would also be great. Thanks
