I wanted to know if this was possible? I was told by a dean at a particluar school that If I was not able to get into an instate school but was able to get to an outstate school, that there could be a possiblity of being able to transfer back to an instate school after the first year. Is this a easy task or do the moons have to align in order for this to happen.

If anybody has done this please respond. any info on this matter would be appreciated.

thanks again

Hey Andrew, hockeydude from Houston texas.

Guess you are interested in trying to get into marquette and then transfering to a texas school after one year?

Of course you have to be admited somewhere first einstein and I'm sure if you get into marquette they would be thrilled to see that you might want to QUIT their program and go somewhere else after a year. Smart move bud. dental schools are into retaining students so I find it hard to believe that anyone would say something like this to you.

Didnt you also post on this board that you wanted preferential admission because you wore a hearing aid?

with regards your vermin friend johndental.

Wow Dental John

you have out done yourself with that captivating response. I was looking moreso for a response about the possiblity of transferring. I do see it your way as well, would hate to offend any school by quiting there program after one year as well. I am not trying to hide my identity on this website, you can pretty much figure out who I am any ways.

Getting prefrential treatment is another story in itself. I find your accusation of prefential treatment a tasteless and rude comment as there is. I would never in my wildest dreams, think that someone such as your self would sink that low as to attack someone with a hearing impairement. To imply that I would only be able to get into dental school based upon a hearing impairement is just crap. If it had worked for me, I think I would have already heard from my instate schools. Such bigtry on your part John. I am trully disgusted in your comments.

Transfering between dental schools depends on the school you are trying to transfer to. Some schools don't take any transfers (Harvard, Stonybrook). At our school, they take only 1 or 2 transfer students per year. We also had 2 students transfer out of my class and go to Canadian schools; they had super stats at the time of the transfer. I would look into the policies of the schools you are trying to tranfer to b/c dental schools is not as easy as undergrad transfers. Often the policies (do they allow transfers or not) are posted on their websites. Ask current upperclassmen if there are any transfer students in their classes and how many; also ask if anyone transferred out. Better yet, contact the dean that told you this and find out what the requirements are to transfer into their school. You may need to do super well at your first dental school to even be considered by the second one.

JohnDental,

I can't believe the post I just read from you on this thread! That was so extremely rude...even if the things you said were true, there is no reason to say them in such a demeaning manner.

It is posts like that yours that keep new SDNers intimidated on this forum. Dude, if you are in a bad mood...just keep your mouth shut.

I agree with Griffen, most schools have different curriculums, and so it is pretty hard to transfer as if you try to and havent done what the other school did their first year, you might havbe to just start as a D1 all over again. Would you want to waste an extra year to save some money, or I guess youwouldnt even be saving any money then. Like Griffen said ask the Dean, but there arent very many schools that let you transfer.

john dental: you're a jacka$s. Simple as that with no explination needed.

Transferring schools can be extremely difficult, and it usually doesn't benefit the student as much as they had hoped.

It's difficult to begin a professional education in one manner, and then switch to a different style.

This statement is folly. However I will give this poster the benefit of the doubt in that he is wrong on many of the things that he posts on this forum.

I bet Medius, aka Flong, will be banned by the end of this week. Any takers?

That's pretty low-ball dude. I still laughed though.

I know 2 people that transferred out of marquette. One after first year and one after second year both to be with spouses. I also tried to transfer to a canadian school after first year and I wasn't to quiet about it - I did tell some friends, and what was the school going to do after I had successfully completed first year. It didn't work out for me because of curriculum differences but it did for the others.

THe only reason, I ask this question, is due to the cost of going to Dental school in Marquette. In comparison with TEXAS schools about 100 grand difference. That is a lot of money. Who isn't scarred about having a 200,000 debt after they graduate. Again thanks again for replying to my question.

Which school did you try to transfer to?

And your opinion is certainly fine. I must ask, however, that you give your reasoning for my statement being "folly".

Many curriculi are so vastly different that beginning school in one place and then transferring only results in the student missing prior coursework, as well as having to retake priorly completed coursework. For this reason, most schools won't even look at accepting transfers during the first two years.

dentaldream, I tried to transfer to my undergrad university, The university of Western Ontario. What happened was a girl in the class of 2002, had to drop out do to illness and there was one spot available to transfer into. I applied along with somebody from Pittsburgh and he got in. I think the big difference is that I had only one semester of operative - but in retrospect it should have made no difference - I had already completed a semester of crown and bridge which they didn't even take yet.

Oh well, I am happy to have graduated from marquette - my classmates were awesome and milwaukee was a fun place to go to school.

$200,000 could leave some scars, I agree

If you can swing a cheaper school, I'd go for it

What reason did you use to transfer? I heard that you need a really good excuse to transfer in dental school.

No one asked for a reason - marquette did not really know I was applying - all I did was order transcripts from the registrar to be sent to Western. I'm sure Western knew I wanted to go there to save money- isn't that the reason any Canadian reapplies to a Canadian school.

At best, I plan on owing $200,000 (Nova, UNLV)

If I get accepted to and attend USC, I will owe more like $300,000. :wow:
