hi everyone here...I Have Read on some of these POSTS that people can CALL the admissions office and ASK for an interview?????!!!

I THOUGHT THEY INVITE YOU?!? like at CASE, CREIGHTON......

i will call all of the places then and do tHat!! is this true. AM I SERIUOSLY MISSING something?? 🙂 :scared:

thanks you.

I haven't heard of anyone calling in and getting an interview by request. You can call intp reschedule and do that sorta thing, but nowhere have I seen anyone get an interview by just asking...
You have to be offered one.

not getting interview invites means your credentials doesn't meet the criteria the school is looking for.....so basically, requesting an interview is pointless since the school doesn't want you anyway even if you have an outstanding interview.

Which posts did you read these on?

You do have to be invited; that's that. Maybe you're thinking of people calling to inquire on their status, rescheduling interviews, or pleading their case to adcoms after interviews...?

Places like Creighton do not interview people. However, what you can do (and I've done this) is contact them and ask them for a tour of the campus. During that tour you will meet with the Dean of Admissions and have a one on one talk with him to talk about your application. This is not a formal interview, it is just an opportunity for you to explain your application and make a good impression.

I have a friend who was going to make a trip to NY for leisure, so she called NYU and asked if she could interview since she would be in the area. She was not invited for the interview by the school, but they did let her interview.

She hasn't heard back, and this was a while ago. I assume they agreed to keep her info on hand in case they got to her in the pecking order.

I don't think it's pointless. I called several schools and requested an interview. I remember getting AT LEAST 7-8 interview invitations just by calling (including tier 1 schools). I didn't go to all my interviews but I got acceptances too. I was also able to reschedule many of my interviews.

It doesn't hurt to ask, but the only reason they would just "give" you an interview after you asked for one would be if they were going to invite you for an interview anyways.

I hate myself for even potentially stroking your healthy ego, but you probably would have been granted those interviews anyway due to your stats. Its likely, in your case that calling to request interviews only expedited the process. So, calling schools to request interviews is not universally applicable advice.

What do you mean by "tier 1 schools"? I have never heard of that sort of distinction in regard to DENTAL schools. Sometimes I think you are a premed trapped in a dental student's body!

Just because some schools field incoming students with higher stats, turns them out into specialties at a higher rate or have higher board scores doesn't make them the BEST school for everyone. I don't know if this is what you mean by "tier one" but if it is, I think you should instead call it "one of my personal tier 1 schools because it had everything important to ME."

Seriously though, you've worked hard. I respect that. Congrats on you acceptance to UCLA and UConn, Columbia, UCSF, Harvard etc...

I really don't know but it definitely helped me.

"tier 1" was a terminology used by some of the schools I interviewed at (and some of the deans of admissions). I personally think there is no bad dental school. For that reason, I didn't list any names under "tier-1"

Very true.

P.S. The OP was wondering if anyone, in the previous application cycle, asked any school for an interview. I just answered his question. It worked for me.

Actually, now that you mention it I think I remember Dr. Alexander and McManus both mentioning something about "tier 1 " blah blah blah... but what does it really mean? I wonder if it is meaningful or just some way of piggybacking on some incredible undergrad programs. I have no idea, but a little curious.

Yeah, I know you were just answering the op. That's totally cool. Sorry if what I wrote seemed a little off topic or personally abrasive. Its just I started writing and was unable to keep my fingers from typing what was really on my mind.

I don't know about any other schools, but I did call and ask for an interview at Creighton. You will get a tour of the school and an interview with Dr. Ayers. I don't believe they will call and invite you, so if you want to do it, you must call and set it up. Creighton is the only school I'm aware of that does it this way, since interviews are not required.

see thats what i thought. there are some palces that you can call for and ask for an interview? creighton is the only one?!?!?! any others that you can call and go.

i think going to an interview, even when you called an asked, may benefit anyone that goes and can make an impression, right?

especially when they actually SEE you and speak with you, compared to others that they only read about?

I agree that it probably helps your application, unless you interview poorly. If nothing else, it will show that you are very interested in the school.

The dentist that runs our pre dental club suggests that we call our schools and request interviews, but this is because we live on a rock in the middle of the ocean and it costs a million dollars to fly off of it. Sometimes the schools are helpful and work with us so that we can group interviews together, sometimes they aren't. I think most schools won't interview you before they know that they are interested though. They don't want to waste their time.
