Can you get interviews based on your old MCAT if a new one is pending?

I've always wondered this. Because of some trouble I had to set a last minute retake for my exam, but I already have a score on file that they could potentially look at and grant me an interview for.

It probably depends on where you're applying, but unfortunately, I think many schools will refrain from even looking your application if a new MCAT score is pending (you're obligated to disclose future test dates for which you're registered on the AMCAS, and if you don't, schools will probably find out anyway). I myself submitted my primary while awaiting a second score, and received various automated messages confirming receipt of my primary but saying I would not be granted a secondary until my new score was released.

I was thinking the same. Thanks

They'll send out secondary apps the minute they receive your new MCAT.

are schools really going to wait to send you out a secondary if they dont pre-screen? I mean no one in the adcom is going to give your application the time of day until they get that secondary fee, so I would immagine you will get some secondaries before your 2nd MCAT is available, but your application wont be complete, and you cant get an interview before your application is complete

I am personally in the same situation as you. I have an MCAT score on file that's decent, but I decided to retake the exam again in August.

I emailed all 20 something medical schools I am applying to and asked regarding this. The majority of the schools will not review your application until they get your retake. However, some schools (most of all the UC schools) will start reviewing your application with your old score. If they were able to make a decision based on your old score, they will send you their secondary. If they feel like they need to see your retake to make a decision, they will wait. If they feel like you are not a good fit, they will reject you without even waiting for your retake.

Few schools have the options on their secondary asking you if you want them to wait for your retake, if you opt to not wait for the retake, they will begin reviewing your application and perhaps invite you to interview if your first MCAT score and your application is good enough. Otherwise, the majority of the schools will wait for your retake to begin reviewing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. The problem is is that with my new date I'll literally be applying at the very tail end of the cycle. I better pull off a killer score, and I'm aiming for it!

Staying positive!
