can you guys please look at where I am right now and tell me if I still have a shot at DO schools?

Gen chem 1 - B-

Gen chem 2- B

Bio 1 - B+

Orgo 1- B-

Psych- A+

Calc.- A

Gen chem lab- A+

Orgo 1 lab - C (uhg my instructor really hated me...I still dont know why to this day, but i worked my butt off in that class...)

Taking right now

Orgo 2 (lab is incorporated with the lecture grade in this one) - Just had my first exam, get back results next week, hoping for the best!

Going to take soon

Physics 1

Physics 2

Bio 2 (most likely going to take this summer)

Biochem 1 (possibly, but most likely will take)

*I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but I plan on taking my time studying for it, I want to write it next January if its possible.

Do you guys think with the grades I have so far in the classes that I took are decent enough? I know they're not too great. Also, if I want to retake that C in orgo 1 lab, how would I go on about it? I have no idea how because my school does not allow retakes on courses where a C or higher was received 🙁

There are no red flags from those grades. Just do better for the rest of your courses. As long as your cGPA/sGPA ends up 3.5+ and you get a solid MCAT, you'll be fine. Make sure to volunteer/shadow.
Thanks for the reply, I should also mention that some of the grades I posted are the most recent grade I have for those courses, like Bio1 I had to retake.

I totally disagree. OP barely has a 3.0 sGPA (possibly less?). OP has not gotten a single A in any course (except for one lab grade, which I'm guessing is only worth 1 credit). This is not good enough.

OP should also not be wasting time volunteering/shadowing at this point. His courses should be his main priority. 5000 hours of volunteer work means squat if you can't get some A's.

@impatientcollegestudent if you can get an A in Calculus then you can surely ace some science courses.

Take Biochem before the MCAT. You need the best MCAT score possible with your GPA. Also many school are starting to require Biochem

Take some upper level sciences such as physio/micro/anatomy ect. Also, get to the root as to why you struggled in some of your intro classes!

It was actually a 3.00 credit class at my school.

Is there any way I can get into medical school then... 🙁 should I do a post-bacc? Or smp? I'm still finishing my degree.

Agree with Goro, give us GPAs. Ain't no one got time to add that all up. And DO schools do grade replacement, retake all C/D/F courses, retakes can get that GPA up quick, and do well on the MCAT.

You still can! Don't give up yet. You need an upward trend though so start working harder in your classes. I was grilled for my freshmen grades (C's in Chem and a W) but I showed an upward trend and was able to explain why I messed up. Something to consider is what your quarterly/semester class load is like. Are you taking too many hard science classes at once while trying to tack on too many ECs? Like @edgerock24 said, you need to focus on grades first. Once you feel like you understand how to manage studying, then slowly add on the ECs.

OP has 4 science grades up with 5 remaining. That's plenty of room to bump their sGPA up to 3.3-3.5.
And who said anything about 5,000 hours? You can have a 4.0 and if nothing on your application indicates your interest in medicine/nothing to talk about during interviews, doesn't mean squat either.
I'll say it again. If OP can calculate their GPA and get it up to the numbers I mentioned, land a solid MCAT score, they're fine as long as they show some indications that they have an interest in medicine and can back it with experiences.

OP has done nothing to prove that he can get a 3.3-3.5 GPA. OP has done nothing to prove that he will get a solid MCAT score.

My point was that the OP needs to start getting A's before worrying about any sort of EC's.

Your grades are similar to my own. Just make sure you get As and Bs in all your future classes and I think with a good MCAT (27+) you should be able to get some interviews. I've had three and my sgpa is a 3.37.

I'm a NY resident and would love to stay here. Do you think I'd be able to get any chances here in NYC? If my sGPA ends up being around 3.2-3.3 and a decent mcat score? Like a 508-510?

Your username is fairly appropriate. That being said, If you can get a great MCAT score I think you should be ok...maybe...who knows?

My GPA wasn't great my first half of undergrad, then I killed it my last 2 years. Had nothing to "prove" that was going to happen until it did. I'm in med school now. But at the same time my grades climbed, so did my involvement in clinical experiences.

They're not in a place to show anything they can prove, learn to gauge the point of this post. They want to make sure they're still in the running and I'm just assuring them that as long as they put in the work and get the numbers, they're still ok. But if they want to apply asap and not take a gap year, I'm suggesting they also get involved clinically as they take grades more seriously.

I am willing to take my time and take a gap year. I am in no rush at all. Thank you for your assurance.

I am not trying to prove anything here man, thank you for your input though. I am not going to focus on EC's till I am almost done with my pre-reqs, I still have 5 left.

Your grades aren't stellar. Your chances are slim at best. You need to retake these classes. A "C" sadly isn't going to cut it. I would consider other job prospects if I were you unless you can turn those Cs and B-s into As.

Anything is possible still. Your grades are actually very similar to what I received for those classes as well, but then I got my act together and ended up with a 3.5 sGPA. Didn't exactly kill the MCAT either but still got in...
