Hi SDNers!

I've posted a few times on this forum and I do appreciate all your help.

My question is : What are some classes I can take online or books I can buy to prepare myself for the future?

I'm a junior in High School and I'm looking to gain as much knowledge as I can before attending community college and dental school.

Please help me!

Thanks a ton!

stay on this site and you will learn invaluable information about the whole process of getting into dental school... however, if you only plan on attending community college then you might have a more difficult time getting into dental school as CC credits are not valued as highly. i would start by thinking which 4-year university you will attend/transfer to and go from there

Nice to see you are committed and motivated to be successful in the future! I will be 27 when I enter dental school so I respect the fact that you know your interests at such an early (relative to me) point in life.

I'm not too sure about any specific books or resources, but I think what would be really valuable is some experience in the fields, that not only will you learn from, but will look good on your application in the future. Whether its volunteering in a health related field - anything at all, would give you exposure to network with doctors/dentists. In my opinion, that's where most of your learning will take place if you want to get a head start and stand out from the crowd. As for actual books or materials, if you youtube "Khan Academy" there are some really great science related videos.. they aren't specific to dentistry however, but could be a good start . Hope this helps.

As ILLchief mentioned, here's your first piece of advice: don't go to a CC. It's certainly possible to go to a CC and then go to DS, but it will likely cause you some headaches. Go to a 4-year university. It doesn't have to be prestigious or expensive.

Also, you're in a good place. Keep reading up on this site, and you'll have loads of information and insight once it comes time to apply.
