Or can you only retake a class once?

i.e. I took a class and did terrible, re-took the class next semester with same results, and now four years later would like to retake it and think I would do much much better. Would AACOMAS take the third retake?

Oh, and how would you designate this in the Classification drop-down on the app??? I'm still a bit confused by how the classifications work anyways. Anyone know of a link where I can get some info?

Thanks all !!!

P.S. - I tried a search on this but didn't find anything out and left AACOMAS a message. I'm sure their slammed with call right about now.

Yes you can. The second retake grade replaces the first and the third replaces the second. This is why/how the most recent grade is taken and not the highest grade. The newest retake replaces the 2nd newest retake.

Yeah you can but why do you need to? I mean do you absolutely need to retake it because I think Adcoms are going to have something to say about it. I know taking a class here and there again is ok but taking it a 3rd time seems like there is a deeper problem there....just my opinion but I think it would raise a red flag....

The first time I took it I just failed for lack of a better excuse...

The second time I took it over summer at a different school than my undergrad as a non-matriculated student. A week into the course I dropped it due to my financial aid not coming through for this class. Although apparently I did not go through the correct protocol of getting the instructors signature (I just got my drop form signed by someone in the registrars office) and it never went through. Thus, later that summer I got a shocking letter that I had failed the class. I tried to appeal, b/c literally the instructor has no record of me ever taking a test or even attending a lab, but they said NO.

Really stupid mistake on my part. This was >four years ago. Looking back, I should have been more diligent in making sure the classs dropped and following all protocols etc., but I have to live with it I guess.

Anyway, BCMP grades are great. Just this one class!

I took first semester gen chem 3 times. First in 1987 (got an A), then in 1990 (new school required a different course, got a B), then in 2005 because I forgot everything (got an A). ACOMAS has room for something ridiculous like 8 repeats for any given course.

I think that if a bunch of years have gone by and you retake, then the red flag fades to pink. The whole point of retake forgiveness is to allow for improvement.
