Can you take Step 1 before finishing the first two years of medical school? Can I walk in an take it week 1, then step 2 week two, then step 3 etc.? Silly question I am sure, but I am trying to find out if I can afford a medical education on my own savings and salary due to having problems receiving financial aid and I am trying to find out if I can accelerate through medical school. I know lots of people think they are smart and they can do anything, and I do not mean to flame with this thread, I am just curious. Also, I know I will not take them week after week, but would try to knock a few semesters off school if at all possible.

So I guess my question is, is it academically possible to learn these tests in a couple of years if I kill myself studying, and will any school let me do this? Thanks for any responses upfront.

I'm an ECFMGer, but I had to have my school sign that I had "completed the basic sciences portion" of my education before I could register for Step I. So I'm going to say it wont work quite like that for, also you have to put in the time for the rotations

nope, you can't do that. you need a school to certify your enrollment and i doubt any school would certify you to take step 1 that early

are you in america? just like colleges, medical schools have "credits" for each course and clinical clerkship. At my school, the first three years of school is all required curriculum, and you will need X number of credits to graduate. It is not possible to speed this up. There are several schools in the US that are instituting a 3 year FM track to get you up and out of med school one year earlier if you plan on going to a FM residency.
