I'm in need of a definitive answer. I've done seraches on this but I can't seem to find my answer.

Most US schools require a full year equivalent of English in University. Are there any schools which don't need this, and take Grade 13 English as a substitute?

Thanks, all responses are appreciated.

I am a Canadian resident (from Calgary), although the Grade 13 does not apply to me, I have applied to many US schools, and I believe the answer to your question is no. As an example, Detroit-Mercy asks for your Gr. 13 marks, but still requires a year of university english.

Hello,

I'm a Canadian resident from Ontario. Most of US dental schools actually do accept OAC (grade 13) English credit! I know for sure Harvard, NYC, Columbia, Buffalo, Case, Boston, Michigan, Temple, Pacific accepts OAC as an english requirement. Upenn wants Ontario applicants to take half semester worth of university english. Tufts do not accept OAC english.

PM if you have any questions regarding applying to US dental schools

Yes, your info is accurate. Most do accept OAC English as the requirement. Even Detroit Mercy 2 years ago but don't know if they have changed their requirements.

Why is it that Ontarians need an extra year of high school anyway? The rest of the country seems to do ok without it?

They have eliminated OAC (Grade 13) about 4 years ago so now they are in line with the rest of Canada in terms of education.
