I'm writing the Canadian DAT on Nov 4 but I need practice on the carving section. Does anyone know of a website where I can find the figures to practice my carving? There is only one example in the DAT prep text and I've heard its not representative of what we might see on the actual test. Help, please

No way?!?! Too bad I didn't see such a package being sold at my school 🙁

Can I ask you guys a silly question? Why do you "write" your DAT instead of "take" it?

Because us Canadians are taught English the British way... that's why we say "wrote" or "write" instead of "took". Will it surprise you that we also spell certain words differently?? 😀

Different spellings don't faze me. It's just the terminology, I guess.

Well, I can see why you guys get confused, as someone thought I literally wrote the questions for the DAT... just kinda funny the countries have these differences (how come the speed limit is so low in the States compared to Canada) even though the geographic barriers are pretty much non existent and the Canadian culture is slowly becoming more American.

I was unaware there were two distinct distinct DAT versions for Canada and the United States. Is it just the carving section?

I thought I read on the ADA website that both Canadian and US schools honored the same exam...

The Canadian DAT doesn't include organic chemistry and quantitative reasoning sections, but does include a manual dexterity portion. Also, Canadian dental schools will only accept the Canadian DAT whereas the American schools will accept either.

also, the canadian dat is written on paper, not electronically

When is the Canadian DAT offered? I'm not Canadian, however, my wife is from Alberta.

How does the difficulty compare with regards to getting into a Canadian schools vs an American schools?

The Canadian DAT is offered twice a year - February and November. You have to sign up through the CDA, choose a city, and they will tell you the location.

Canadian schools are more difficult to get into because there are fewer schools, which drives up the competition. For example, to get an interview at UofT last year, the average GPA was 3.7. I don't know what the entry stats for each of the schools were, but they were lower than UofT's most likely.
