CANADIAN DAT vs AMERICAN DAT

😕 what do you guys think in the difficulty of both of these? I know Canadian ones have the soap carving and no organic chemistry, but for the biology and chemistry and reading comp what do you think? Do US schools really look at the carving grade? The Canadian one is also done on paper (scantron) and you don't get your scores for about 4-6 weeks. Let me know your thoughts, thanks!!!

I'm not sure that many people have written both the American and Canadian DATs to give you a comparision of the Bio, Chem, and Reading Comp sections. However, I was glad to be able to write it on paper, even if that means having to wait 6 weeks.

Also, I don't think many American schools consider the carving grade - I know for one that Howard doesn't. There is no definite list of these schools, but they might consider it in the overall picture.

thank you..what schools are you applying to? i am writing my dat for the second time on saturday. gettin a little stressed out. is it me, or do you find that with each year the cycle is getting more and more competitive and the gpa's are getting higher? why is it soo hard to get in now?

I have given both the american and the canadian DAT.........n i thought the american one was a bit easier as it gave u more confidence on the organic and math compared to carving on the canadian one. I thought the additional sections on the american DAT really helped me boost up my total sciences and academic average...but it depends whether u like math and organic.

I haven't really tracked the cycles - I only have the 2006 cycle from predents.com for comparison. My GPA isn't high but there are others who have interviewed and been accepted with lower GPAs than mine, so I haven't written my application off entirely.

I'm applying to a lot of schools. I wish I had found predents.com before I applied because I would have changed some of my choices (i.e. state schools).
