Hello, I posted my questions on "Should I Retake?" thread previously, but haven't got answers yet, so please understand me for asking here again in this new thread..
Again, I am a canadian student completing M.Sc in biochemistry. I just recieved my 1st MCAT score back and it's 8VR/11BS/11PS/N WS (30N).
I have:
-around A- (3.4-3.6 here in Canada) average
-a decent amount of EC including oversea and hospital volunteering and tutoring at the inner city school
-4yrs of research experience (Awards at the conferences and 1st author paper)
-good LORs (hopefully!)
My grades aren't spectacular, so I basically don't have a preference in terms of where I want to go for med.
I am planning to apply any medical schools on the west and east coast that would take canadians (according to 09-10 MSAR book) with my score range...
so far I have the following list: (got longer than before, sorry!)
Loma Linda, USC, University of Conneticut, George Washington University, Georgetown, Rosalind Franklin, Indiana University, Boston University, Tufts, Dartmouth, Albany, Albert Einstein, Mount Sinai, New york medical college, NYU, SUNY, Stony Brook, Case Western, Jefferson medical college, Penn State
My questions are:
1. What are my chances for those schools with MCAT score?
2. Do you think I should retake due to my verbal? [The thing is, the score is just within my practice test score range, and I don't know if I could improve hugely on VR until July (My next scheduled MCAT). My plan for this year's application was to just apply early (June) with this score, prepare well for any interviews and see what happens rather than wait until August (for a new score) then apply.]
3. If I update my MCAT score with a new one later, is my application pushed all the way back to the line in the review, hurting my chance of getting in?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and good luck to everyone!
P.S. please let me know if my thread is not appropriate for this section of the SDN forum.
I am quite relatively new here and I will move it to an appropriate section.
