Title: Indiana University School of Dentistry vs. New York University College of Dentistry (CANADIAN STUDENT)
School 1: IUSD
Pros:
Pros:
I am really torn. Tuition is about the same at both institutions, so cost is not that big of an issue. I may or may not go back to Canada to practise after, this is still up in the air. Thanks!
School 1: IUSD
Pros:
- Slightly cheaper than NYU
- Really great speciality programs/research
- Really liked the vibe during my interview
- Campus/facilities were really up-to-date, cutting edge, clean (they have a new dental building)
- I really loved Indianapolis when I visited for my interview.
- Small class size
- I heard that the patient population is not that diverse?? May impact clinical experience.
- I have a really big interest in global public health (topic of my undergraduate thesis, most of my extracurriculars revolve around it), not sure if IUSD can provide experiences that appeal to this interest (specifically dental public health).
- Considering I am an international student (Canadian) and IUSD is a state school, will my opportunities be limited?
Pros:
- Huge appeal/opportunities for dental public health
- Really great specialty programs/research programs
- NYC is an exciting place to live
- NYU ranks high on best dental school in the USA (I think higher than IUSD, not sure if where I found this was from a credible source)
- Facilities were not as nice as IUSD, but still good (better than some other schools I interviewed at)
- Also liked the vibe of the school and NYC was exciting.
- Tends to be 'Canadian friendly.' Many Canadians in the class.
- Large class size (not really a hug con, my undergraduate school was huge).
- Heard the atmosphere is very competitive?? People drop out apparently/retention rate is not that good??
- NYC is EXPENSIVE/inherent hustle be overwhelming.
- The classmates seemed a little more distant/not as close as IUSD.
I am really torn. Tuition is about the same at both institutions, so cost is not that big of an issue. I may or may not go back to Canada to practise after, this is still up in the air. Thanks!
