Hey all, I'm sure this has been posted numerous times, but I couldn't find a concrete answer for my situation, so I decided to post here. If you're aware of an identical thread, I would appreciate being directed to it.

The short background is that I live in Canada (Ontario to be specific) and I've been working as a mechanical engineer for the last 3 years. Graduated in 2014 with a 3.3 cGPA. I've found myself unsatisfied with my current situation and looking for a shakeup. I've been reading about dentistry and it's been seriously interesting me. I've always enjoyed learning about the human body and find that teeth would be a great occupation to get into. (I also have a strong stomach if that point comes up.)

So my question is, what are my options? I'm aware that I need to do a DAT and score higher than a 20, I know I need to complete some prerequisites concerning biology and the like (is that something I can complete through night school?) but beyond that, I'm fairly lost and most answers are concerning american universities. Maybe you want to warn me away from dentistry entirely? Please let me know your thoughts and guidance!

I understand there are alot of threads regarding this, but I was wondering if anyone has a Canadian perspective.

Any input would be highly appreciated!

I'm a Canadian as well. 11 interview invites to date and multiple acceptances. Feel free to ask me anything. Firstly, I recommend that you buy the ADEA official guide to dental schools from the ADEA website. It will tell you what you need for each school, their stats, how many Canadians they accept, etc. To answer your question, you need generally need: 1 year gen Bio W/ lab, 1 year gen chem W/ lab, 1 year phsyics W/ lab, 1 year Orgo W/ lab, 1 year English and 1 semester of biochem. Some schools require additional courses such as micro-bio. I would also like to say that you ideally need a 22AA+ DAT (balanced). You offer a unique application with work experience and career change so I think you should go for it if you like. However, do consider that a US school will cost you around 450-500K USD- be sure to have a plan with how you will pay it back. PM me if you have any other questions. GL.
