I am a canadian citizen who studies in the US and I want to come back to Canada after. I will be applying to the Canadian match but since chances are that I won't match there, I am wondering about the procedure on how to get a statement of need.
When are you supposed to request it? Before matching or after?
Should one inquire early about the needed specialties in Canada and select a specialty from the list?
Does anyone know what are the needed specialties in Canada?

If you are a US (MD) medical student, why wouldn't you match in Canada?
You should have little trouble matching in most specialties. Canadian and USA medical students compete for the same spots (and not for IMG spots). Unless you are a horrible student, I don't see why you would not match.
