Hello,
this student advisor at my university told me that there are a few med schools in the US that "like" Canadians? Does anyone know anything about that?
Any Canadians applying to US this year? and where did you apply?

Looks like not too many of us.

I'm applying because of the many MD/MBA programs available in the states, compared to zilch here in Canada. Well that and I though my MCAT score would carry some more weight down there 🙄 . Trying Duke, Penn, Harvard Yale and John Hopkins. Boy am I ever running late with it all though.

What about you?

There don't appear to be too many of us lol.
But i've applied to Tualne, Stanford, Jefferson, GWU, Dartmouth, and Pritzker. I have applied to 4 Canadian schools, but I feel the major emphesis they place on GPA is going to hurt my chances here, even though my MCAT score is solid.
Hope to hear from some more people.

Hey guys, 🙂

I'm Canadian as well but I went to undergrad in the States....my advisor wasn't really helpful in regards to whether Canadians are favored by some schools.

American schools are not biased towards canadians, they treat canadians as any out of state. HOwever, some schools require that you have a green card, so unless u are a canadian with greencard u can't go there. I know Wayne state is pretty open to canadians. Granted there is not many that get accepted each year 2-3 but then again not many apply either. Good luck to all.

Hello fellow Canadians,
Based an unsuccessful attempt to get into 3 Ontario school's last year, this year I decided to stretch my hopes beyond our border: I've applied to 45 US schools ($$) and 2 Australian schools (I got an acceptance from one of these Australian schools and should hear from the other soon). I submitted my AMCAS application early in July and just recently finished all my secondaries. Of 13 US schools I've heard from so far, I've been granted 7 interviews (I've attended 2 so far: Vanderbilt and Virginia), got rejected pre-interview from 4, and put on hold from the remaining 2. Still, I'm not giving up hope in Ontario; I also applied to Mac, UofT, Queen's and Northern Ontario. I didn't get an interview at Mac, UofT, or Queen's last year despite my 3.81 cumulative GPA, decent MCAT scores (V 10, P 10, B 11, and S), a research grant, numerous academic and athletic awards, and community level volunteer experience (I have since gained clinical volunteer experience). Overall, I'm certainly happy with my decision to apply abroad and would recommend the same to other able and willing Canadians. Best of luck!

i read on one site that this guy applied to ubc three times in a row and got rejected all times, but applied to northwestern and got in on his first attempt. i guess the only downfall to attending us schools is the higher tuition rates.
