Hi all, I'm from Canada and looking to apply to a school in the States which accepts international students. However my problem is that they require that you have your SSN prior to starting the program. How do you go about this?

The school will work out the paper work for the F1 visa, but they say that the SSA states that as of Fall 2011 they cannot help you get your SSN with enrolment unless the school guarantees you a job on campus.

I think they mean permanent residents, those have SSN. International students are hard, there're only a few school that accept international students. Call to different schools to make sure
