Hello!

I was lucky enough to receive 8 II to: VCU, oakland, CUSM, Wayne, MCW, kaiser, Geisinger, NYMC.

So far, I’ve attended VCU, oakland, and cusm. I’m waiting to hear back from VCU and oakland and have already been accepted to CUSM. The only interview I plan to attend next is Kaiser.

Attending CUSM has its risks but I feel that I would be most happy here. The faculty and students look happy. Weather and Location is important to me. My family is only an hour away. I’m thinking of doing pediatrics, emergency medicine, or oncology - nothing too competitive. I want a residency in CA. I love bench research, but with nearby medical schools, I think I should be fine with finding decent labs to do research in. Costs isn’t as important because I think attending OOS schools would be a lot more expensive than CUSM.

Do you think it’s foolish of me to choose CUSM over those other schools/not going to the interview? I feel sure about CUSM and flights are expensive..

Any feedback is appreciated! Thank you!

Based on your location, desired specialties, and hope to remain close to home it is most definitely reasonable to cancel all future interviews. This is the school you wanted and it is the school you got! Don't waste money on future interviews when you've already made up your mind on the school you want to attend. The only other school you should consider would be Kaiser since it is another Cal school.

I guess the other big risks are residency matching and accreditation. If I do well in steps, even from a new school, it shouldn't be too much of a problem? And I'm assuming CUSM won't have any problem eventually being accredited?
