cancel check

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the school was very understanding and had no problem returning the check back to me. yay! now i have money for a winter vacation.

Wow, you're very lucky! Go on vacay!

Indeed it does. When I presented my thoughts on it she laughed and told me no. She said more than likely the school wouldn't waste the time/money to pursue someone for $2,000. Aside from that, since the offer is conditional, they may be a little more flexible on their end, since they don't have it locked up tight on their end either. More than anything though, she said it'd cost them about or more than $2,000 (particularly if the other party has a lawyer and can drag it out a bit) to pursue you and it isn't worth it when there are 10 more people waiting to throw the money at them. Good catch and I'm sorry for contradicting you.

No big deal. This is why we're applying to med school, not law school, right? I personally would go crazy figuring out all of the gray areas of law.

did anybody cancel their deposit check after sending it in? due to an acceptance to another "tOP" choice school?

The week after sending my checks to 3 DO schools, I got accepted at my top pick, so I called and asked them to cancel the check and withdrawl my application. One school said they would cancel it, only to email me an interview invite the following week and cash my check while they were at it.

You can try, but good luck!!

Congrats man!!! You did the right thing being direct, and I'm really glad you got your money back. Enjoy the vacation before the rush of school starts. By the way, did you ever share the school you were accepted to that you turned Touro down for??

Sorry, but 2000 bucks buys me a nice vacation in Mexico. If I were in the OP's situation and could find a way

$2000.00 dollars could buy you an island in Mexico.

Anyways... Has anyone ever wondered why the deposit is so freakin high at DO schools? It's not like they don't receive enough applicants to fill the spot if the accepted student doesn't show up. Asking for $2000.00 dollars before a student receives financial aid is simply ridiculous.

Can you link me to the craiglist ad for the 2k Mexico islands?? Forget medicine, I'm going to be King of a Mexican Island.

Because they know you kiddies are using it as a backup to an MD school. If you truly do decide to go to the DO school, it goes towards your tuition. If you aren't using it as a backup then you have nothing to worry about.

Hmmm...no

It has nothing to do with MD schools. I got into multiple DO schools but was waiting for my top choice, but the stupid deadline was approaching. I had to put down a deposit or risk not attending any school next year.

You should have post-dated the check to their deadline they say you need to pay the deposit by, then if it was before the deadline date and you wanted to withdraw you could cancel the check and voila! 🙂
