I got into my state school today and I have an interview scheduled for Friday at a school I wouldn't go to over my state school. I am going to have to cancel tomorrow, leaving them only a few days notice. Are there consequences to this?

No. But why don't you cancel today?

Yeah canceling the interview doesn't only make your life a bit easier, but it also saves the school from wasting their resources. I'd let them know ASAP - today if possible.

I tried today but forgot they are 4 hours ahead, so the office is closed.

Dang - well make sure to call them as soon as their offices open up. It might be wise to explain your situation a bit! Good luck with everything. Congrats on the acceptance. Are you actually an art major btw?

You would be a real A-hole if you didn't

Wasn't going to respond to this thread since OP's question was already answered. But this mindset is so prevalent on SDN and I really think it's complete crap. OP earned that interview, and they have every right to attend it, even if they don't think they would attend the school. If someone else wanted that interview spot, they should have worked harder and earned it.

I think poster meant it would be an a-hole move to not cancel the interview if they know 100% that they aren't going.

You might end up loving a school after interviewing, despite being "100% sure" you weren't going to go there beforehand.

If OP is 100% sure they aren't going to the interview because they want to take their acceptance and run then I agree with original poster. If OP is "100% sure" they won't go to the school after the interview, so he/she is having second thoughts about even going then I agree with you. There's absolutely no reason for OP to hold on to an interview spot he/she isn't going to lol.

Edited for 100% clarity and no possibility for equivocation.

You think it’s complete crap....
Let’s think about this. As was mentioned above, interviews cost the school money and the interviewers valuable time. Imagine the first question, “why do you want to attend our school of medicine?”
“I would never attend your school of medicine.”
Which sounds more like complete crap to you?

Everyone has every right to do whatever they want. That doesn’t mean taking an interview spot at a school that one knows they wouldn’t a attend isn’t an a-hole move lol.

As for “working harder”
If Tyrion really wanted to be seen as an equal to Jamie and Cersie in Tywin’s eyes he should have just worked harder for it?

Or to quote the late Abraham Lincoln, “As you know the class is limited to 190 students, and the available places do not go very far in accommodating the large number of highly qualified applicants who have applied.”

As someone who ended up at a school that I was "100% sure" I wouldn't attend, I think it's a good idea to go to every interview you can, even if you don't think you'll end up there.

And I appreciate the comparison haha. But to be fair I don't know if being born with a very stigmatized medical condition in a world where people with that medical condition are apparently considered sub-human is the same as having a low GPA/MCAT.

It was a bit of a stretch but the idea was more along the lines of: MCAT and GPA only make up half of the IIs and acceptance battle; ECs, life experience, writing and reflecting skills make up the rest. Therefore the ability for someone to say person A has worked harder than person B can be largely subjective especially when it comes to the second half of the application and especially when adcoms are under so much pressure to accept and reject many qualified applicants.

There are many qualified applicants and just not enough spots for acceptance or IIs.

Maybe Tywin reads the app and rejects. Maybe Dany reads it and accepts.
