I'm in a pickle. I scheduled an interview for WVSOM way back in November or so for January 7th and having received an acceptance from a school I wanted to go to rather than WVSOM, how unprofessional is it to cancel an interview this close to the date? Should I just suck it up (which is a bit tough money wise) or should I call on the 2nd when they're back in the office? Any help with what to say?

Cancel it. They understand how this works, and it is unlikely they will be upset. Its more professional than going to the interview with no intention of attending their school.

What TT said...

Just to play devil's advocate: I almost cancelled my interview at WVSOM, but decided to go and ended up loving the school. Of course, I didn't have any other acceptances at the time...

Overall though, I'd say if you like the school you got into, cancel. Who knows, even though it's short notice, maybe someone from nearby can take your interview. You might be able to help someone else out. 🙂

If there is any shot of you attending at all, don't cancel it. Otherwise, no point in wasting yours and their time.

I also had an interview at WVSOM but had received my acceptance from VCOM 4 days before the interview. I knew VCOM was where I wanted to go 100%, so I called WV and told them and thanked them for offering me an interview at their school. They were fine and said good luck at VCOM.

If you are totally sure you want to attend elsewhere, then I would say to cancel the interview ASAP. They can get that slot filled alot of times with others just waiting for that slot to change their lives.

Good luck with your choice
