Hey Guys,

I'm trying not to sound selfish writing this but if you are seriously cancelling your interview with Washington (UW) anytime between today and the 24th of next month please let me know ASAP. I live only a mile from the school and can be at the interview at a moments notice.

I have a really good/bad feeling I will get accepted to a couple other schools I just interviewed at, but the timing of the acceptances will likely mean I will have to put down a deposit before I hear back from UW. I DON'T have the money for multiple deposits. But, UW did say they would be willing to interview me sooner if they had an opening in the schedule.

The instant I get into UW I will naturally withdraw from any other schools I got accepted to, so this could easily be in all our best interest.

Thanks guys,

eran

eran, are you an undergrad at UW too?

You know it. How about yourself angie, you graduating/ed from UW?

e

count me in as well 🙂 we have quite the presence on SDN, I see!

Unfortunately, I will not have the pleasure of spending the next four years here in beautiful Seattle, but I fully intend to return!

Hey Mik,

I see we've got fairly similar GPAs (ur sci is actually higher) and I was wondering if you had any idea why you got rejected from UW? Did you interview and then get denied or did they flat our reject you without any further notice/secondary?? Sorry if this is a sore spot; I didna mean to open up any old wounds bud.

I interviewed right before Thanksgiving, and I felt really good, and then just on Friday my Infosource showed "Application Denied." I don't really know what happened... I do have a couple low grades, especially in Microbiology. MICROM 410 killed me. That could be it... but really, not completely sure. oh well...

I've got some low grades in ochem and physics but I killed in 238 with epiotis and same in nester's micro 301. I'm in 442, medical bacteriology right now. If all goes well, it should be the absolute last class I ever take as an undergrad, and matter of fact I'm only taking it b/c UW decided they would interview me after all. the only crappy thing was/is that the interview date is so far in the future that I can't drop the class and get some $ back or withdraw (just not worth it). Best of luck to ya at Tufts.

Anyway, test tomorrow. I'm going to bed. g'night

Hey, good luck on the test today! (I'm in your class, at UW too.) Should be interesting...

I'm confused...why are you taking medical bacteriology if you don't want to? What does that have to do with UW deciding to interview you? They don't require that class.

Snoop,

Well, academically speaking I totally want to take the class, you know for curiosity and such (not to mention it turns out I'm not so bad at it, I was as shocked as anyone). However, I've only got micro 301 and 302 under my belt, and as the latter is a lab course it does not fulfill the 2 quarters of microbio minimum that UW has set.
As for my actual desire not to be in the class, that comes from a) this being my 5th year, b) I was supposed to graduate last quarter, c) I want to save the money since I'm paying by the credit, and d) I really needed a fulltime job as I was just let go from this family firm I've been at for the past 22 years (J/K the folks cut me off financially as I had told them I would graduate).
This all stems from my earlier assumption that UW would reject me and that I was applying on a lark. I was signed up for micro last quarter but I got a parttime afternoon job at a dentist and that seemed more important in getting me an acceptance somewhere, rather than only meeting UW's requirements and still not getting anywhere.

Make sense?? well I thought so anyway 🙂

Thanks dude, you too. Though it’s more of an after thought now. I thought the first half was way too easy and the second a little more difficult. I wish I had just memorized all the handouts. Oh well, all I want to do at this point in the game is graduate.

Hey, I'll be missing class Friday, could I get your notes from the last three days and Friday??? I've been on interviews this last weekend at Buffalo and UPitt, and Friday I'll be in Philly interviewing at Temple. I will naturally reciprocate should your schedule demand 🙂

e

Okay, that makes sense. What are your stats by the way? It seems like you posted pretty good DAT scores didn't you? I wouldn't give up hope just yet. I'm sure someone will cancel their interview and you can move it up a bit. Keep checking with Kathy Craig. She is a huge help!

I need some more SDNers to join me at UW! Good luck!

Will graduate in June. I have been accepted to UW and UOP...thought I was sure on going to UOP last week, but I am having second thoughts...like 160,000 of them 🙂 plus seattle is home

Thanks for the advice on Kathy. My stats are

3.51,(w/o +/- 3.60) 3.27sci, 20aa/20sci/20pat
University of Washington, BA Int'l Studies
applied: UW, UoP, USC, UPitt, Marq, Temple, Cre, Buffalo, UPenn, Arizona, Louisville, UK.
AADSAS #68--
withdrawn: UPenn, Marq,
interview: UW(2/24), Arizona(2/17), Buffalo, UPitt, Temple, Louisville(2/7)
accepted:
denied:
attending:

So you haven't decided for sure yet? $160,000 is a big difference, but you will graduate a year earlier at UOP and start making a dentist's salary. But yeah, Seattle is home. Gotta factor that in as well. And UW is an awesome school! Let us know what you decide.

Awesome stats! You should definitely get in with those. Mine are pretty similar:

3.52 gpa, 3.28 science, 22 AA (25 Reading, 25 QR)/20 Science/19 PAT

Keep us posted on what happens. Good luck!

So Temple, Buffalo and Upitt are out of the way. All went well, though I still have my reservations about Temple. I felt the class was too big for my liking (cliqish), plus I found the school itself to be in dire need of a makeover/renovation, and some other things I'll not go into.

Next weekend its off to Louisville. After that just AZ and UW. Hurray 🙂

Hey, I'm so, so happy to be joining this thread after so long. I interviewed on the first day of interviews at UW and now finally have heard that I'm accepted! Is there a thread that has UW attendies on it so we can get all hyped up for our coming year? Fact is, we're going to need all the encouragement we can get to survive. 😀 :scared:

Congrats on your acceptance!

Sup Snoop, actually I'm not sure what the result of the interview was. I was told that the decision would be made by the middle of March. So its still two more weeks of waiting. I left feeling good but really who knows. I'm trying to remain positive b/c the alternative is Pittsburgh, and I think I'd much rather stay in Seattle, know what I mean? Either way, I'll be in some dental school next year 🙂

What are you doing between now and when school starts? I'm going to Europe.

Eran-

2 more weeks of waiting?!?! Hopefully you'll get in. But Pittsburgh wouldn't be too bad either.

Europe sounds fun! I'm actually working at Seattle University until school starts. I have a wife and kid to support. Gotta pay the bills and buy all those diapers!

Do any of you know what the deposit for UW is once accepted? I've not heard back yet (any day now) but was just trying to get my finanaces in order before I leave for my trip.

It's only $100.

dam* I love going to a state school. Sure beats the $750 I've already plunked down at Upitt.

On another note, I've not heard anything yet but the letter they gave at the end of the interview day stated that they will let us know by early March.

Should I call them and ask about my status????

(I only bring this up b/c calling them to schedule my interview worked even before I had received my invite letter. Like a many things at UW, they like to do it the old fashioned way, i.e. no email).

Sure, give them a call. It can't hurt.

From what I've found they are not upset when you call, but they also don't give much info out. If you are accepted expect a call from Kathy before you get a letter. I was literally out the door to fly to USC and I checked my messages and discovered Kathy left me a vmail saying I was in. This saved me a trip and a lot of grief. PS I know they are still doing interviews for the next few weeks (my buddy is in on the last day), so I would guess that all the spots are not taken yet.

well I was in the building this morning so I figured I would just drop in and ask in person. The gal behind the desk looked me up but noted that no change in status has been entered. She did say that interviews would go on for another two weeks so I guess the concievably means that it could be 2+ weeks of waiting before final judgement comes down.

USC, ya they sent me an invite two days ago to an interview session today. I told them to cram it (too late, too expensive, to he*l with PBL).

Are you banking that UW will accept you? Have you been accepted somewhere else? If not, I wouldn't give up an oppty for an interview, unless you already have been accepted or don't mind applying again next year. Good luck with UW, I was impressed with the school, but couldn't accept their offer once I got offered in my home state... even though it would have been much cheaper tuition for me to go to UW.... 🙁

Am I banking on it? not perse, but I am trying to keep as positive as I possibly can. However, yes I've been accepted to Upitt and Buffalo and I've put down some ca$h at Upitt.

Enjoy your time at ASDOH. I interviewed, liked the building, but got a weird vibe from the people, plus I'm sorry to say but Mesa kinda sucks.

oh man...

seems like those of u who got accepted into UW have super high gpas. *sigh*

i am attending UW right now (3rd yr. undergraduate) and have a low gpa. i am hoping i'll do post bacc or such program to get into UW??? 😕

anyhows, for those who've interviewed and have friends, people with low gpas (less than 3.1) = no chance of getting into uw????

i've also heard that if u build a good relationship with kathy, u might get in faster & easier than others who do not have a relationship with her...is that true?

yikes, thanks.

To be honest, below a 3.1 will probably keep you from the vast majority of schools, let alone the UW. I say this to be straight with you and also to hopefully motivate you. There's time to raise your GPA, but most importantly, there's time to absolutely rock your DAT. I think many schools put this above grades. It's certainly not too late and you can do that. If you want it you can make it happen.

Dude, do a little math and think about this: 1-2 years plus $ for postbach or masters, might be worth it if it saves you 100-175K off of your D-school bill (a 3.1 to a 3.5/6 in one year probably not gonna happen, you'll need more classes). Don't go to NYU or USC just b/c they accepted you, its not worth the money.

UW is the best D-school deal out there, and as an in-state, your a freaking shoe-in, that is, if you've got the grades and scores. Listen to what people are saying, study hard. Suz-Allen closes at 10pm; my senior year I was there almost every night plus weekends after work. Rock the DAT and take the Kaplan online course (the in-class thing is worthless, unless you can't remember what a proton is). Get a job working for a dentist (shadowing is ****), volunteer, and get some help writing a killer essay and some good LORs.

Hey guys,

Well, I've joined an even more exclusive club than you lucky few who have been acepted to UW. I'm now an official member of the waitlist. It sorta feels like purgatory. I feel so many conflicting emotions about the matter that's it sorta hard to describe. In any event, I'm in about the middle of the list.

Kathy Craig was very nice about in news when she returned my call. A batch of letters went out today so there may be some movement on the waitlist, the but the class is officially full. She said that in the past two years alone, the movement on the list has ranged from a low of two people, to a high of 14. Hell of a range if you ask me.

So, I guess I'm gonna get going on plans to move to Pittsburgh. Too bad really, cuz I wanted to stay here.

Eran,
Do you know what number you are on the list?

My friend interviewed on the last day of interviews and they told him he was #9. He didn't know what kind of odds that gave him. Sounds like from what you're saying... that it could go either way.

when was the last day of interviews? when i talked to kathy awhile back she said interviews were going until the 2nd week of april due to the number of applicants this cycle.

Hmmm. Maybe so. Obviously, she's the source of info on that. My friend told me that he was the last to interview, maybe he just meant for the day, or maybe he had the wrong perception.

However, I'd be surprised if they're still interviewing since all the spots are filled and they have a number on the waitlist... but if you heard from Kathy otherwise than clearly I stand corrected.

I interviewed at UW on the 17th and got a response the very next day. I've already been placed on the wait list (the even told me where I'm on the waitlist). I was under the impression that I was at the very end of the interview but if other people are still invited to interview then I must be wrong. At this point I'm actually thinking about reapplying next year if I don't get in this year. It just makes more sense for me to stay in Seattle since UW has one of the best programs, rather than go to an out of state school and pay through the nose.

Goog luck if you are interviewing with UW. 😀

hey AOM,

if i don't get into UW this year, i'm definitely going to reapply for next year. if next year show the same results as this year, i'll have to go to another school, but i figure what's one year? it'll be a small blessing for a year break (after venting on why i didn't get in the first try 🙂 ). kathy told me that they've taken 90% off the waitlist couple years ago which is almost half the class so you're still in there... GOOD LUCK!

AOM et-all,

I'm #7 on the waitlist. The gal at the front desk told me two weeks ago that interviews will go through this week (so I'm guessing Thursday), but this may or may not be true. I'm hoping the list moves quick and I get an offer, but it very well could go either way. I'm leaving a month from today to Europe for 3 months. So if an offer comes, I'll be enjoying myself on the dalmatian coast when it happens 🙂

Well,

I hope you get in since I'm 2 spots behind you 😀 . I interviewed on the 17th. I thought my interview was the very last day, but judging from the postings here I guess they decided to extend the interviews longer. This is definitely a good sign since they wouldn't interview more people unless they felt the list is going to move very fast. (at least that's what I'm hoping.) 🙄

Good luck to you. I hope you get in before your trip. 🙂

BTW, I checked with UW today. They are done with the interviews.

Now the waiting game begins. Its sort of like a game of chicken, waiting to see who in the class flinches first. Some non-dental friends suggested I track down and dispose of 7 incoming DS1's 😱 I told him that was far too drastic. After all, removing a few fingers would do the same job 😀

Moved up to #6. Kathy said that the movement has been on the list and not in the class. Here's hoping...

I tried to reach kathy last week but she was gone most of the week. She returned my call yesterday and told me there's been more movements on the waitlist. I am now number 6, which means you're number 4. That's very good news especially when it's only been a month and half and three people already dropped out.

I'll keep you posted when I hear more news.

Is anyone planning on doing the summer prematriculation program at UW that starts on June 20th? I just got the information in the mail yesterday. Sounds like a good way to test out of histology and lessen the load in the Fall.

Also, has anyone received any information about testing out of Physiology?

Hi Angeeeee, are you the one with the motorcycle? I seem to remember reading one of your postings about a bike. If so, we can go riding together next year (if I get in) 😀

Absolutely! Have you moved up on the waitlist?

Previous post: I will not be doing the pre-matriculation thing. Anyone going to the BBQ on the 21st at the waterfront activities center?
