Applicants: Be sure you are taking the right pre-reqs for the schools you plan on applying to. DO NOT ASSUME THAT THEY ARE THE SAME FOR OTHER SCHOOLS Check their websites for the classes they require. I thought for sure that UCSF would have the same req's as SC, and I couldn't have been more wrong. Now I'm taking 9 units this summer because of it, and that's after getting them to accept a few that weren't on the list. This can be an incredible pain in the a#$ unlike any other professional program. Take the time to check their websites or call. I wasn't able to apply to Western bc of this

You have no idea how much I agree with that! I'll agree every minute that I am re-taking public speaking and general psychology this summer in the event that I get into UOP. It would have been so easy just to call the admissions office to make sure...

Hey, why is it that you have to retake public speaking and general psych for UOP?

the community college that I took them at was non-accredited (they are currently in the process...)

Jason,

Be sure to be talking to UOP about your admission.

Question: Why didn't you apply to other schools in CA?

It really came down to a pre-requisite issue. It was nearly impossible for me to fulfill all of the california schools pre-pharm requirements - even with a pharmacological chem degree from UCSD. There was an issue about not being a LA resident while taking classes ($), there was a time issue (while working full time)...etc. Last semester, I took Microbiology, A&P, and general Psych(which I'll retake), while working fulltime for the Health Department. I actually had to "sneak away" during work time to attend the micro lecture! Trust me, I would have applied to other CA schools if it were possible. It almost felt like I was choosing my schools by what the pre-reqs were. Now I have to deal with the whole UOP thing. I was actually discussing the situation of my not getting in anywhere with my girlfriend a week or so ago (during the whole albany fiasco) - it would give me a chance to get some more pre-reqs under my belt and apply to other CA schools. BUT, I think I'm in the same boat as you - I'm 28 and don't want to actually START my career in my forties.

- I didn't apply to UCSD because some professor put it into my head that you should go somewhere other than your undergraduate school.

- In the event that I get accepted to UOP, I plan to do some serious begging...🙁

I also looked at prerequisites that I was lacking when I made my application choices. I have taken no sociology, psychology or economics courses. Public speaking is required to get an AA in Florida, so I was alright with that course.

Right now, I'm taking 21 credit hours and working two jobs. It really sucks. But, this summer I only need to take A&P II for UF.

Brevard Community College Palm Bay campus has had one night a week Chemistry classes in the past. I am not sure about other once a week classes though. It will be tough with labs and all. Best of :luck:

Wouldn't that be wonderful if all the accredited schools had the same pre-pharm curriculum.......going 6 years of school is long enough. 🙂
