Hello,

I'm filling out my Work/Experiences section right now and cannot remember how many total hours I spent volunteering at a certain hospital. I thought I wrote it down before but it's been awhile and I can't find it. I contacted the hospital and they don't keep this information recorded. I do know the dates I spent volunteering and the amount of hours per week I spent doing so. Should I just multiply and use that calculation? I know there had to be some weeks I didn't go in or left early etc. so I'm nervous about getting it wrong and causing issues with my application.

Thanks for the help

I'd like to add a question to that for anyone who answers, exactly how specific should we be comma back from like 2012 to 2013 I worked roughly 2200 hours give or take a hundred at a place for people with mental disabilities, should I just round it down a little and call it good? I can't remember every time that I took a day off work or picked up an extra shift

If I were you, I would just do the multiplication, and subtract your best guess for how many hours you missed. If the hospital doesn't have a record of it, then there's no way that they can double-check your hours and catch you on it. I was in the same situation when I applied, and it worked out for me! That's just my two cents, though.

I would report the best estimate that you can for your hours.

Thanks for all the help guys, I just estimated and took off time I knew I was definitely away from the total. I have another question about hours to piggy bank this one, if anyone can help.

I'm putting a part time job where I worked for a year as a student teacher as an entry. I have no idea what the total hours are though. We didn't really have set schedules and it truly varied, sometimes I'd need to fill in all day for a full time teacher or come in last minute to take over a shift etc. It's got to be in the hundreds. Right now, I have 550 (46wks * 12hrs/wk) basically I took 6wks off the yr total which is more than the full weeks I was actually away but I figure that's lenient enough to accommodate other things that came up or slow weeks with little shifts.

Am I being too lenient or not enough? I know it probably doesn't matter and they won't check but my anxiety's been getting the best of me during this application

Do a simple calculation - if you worked, on average, 3 hours a week per semester and your semester is 14 weeks long, then you worked about 42 hours. Nobody is gonna call your supervisor and say, "So and so said they worked 42 hours on their app but it seems like that should be more like 41.2. Care to elaborate?" Most people don't keep notebooks of every hour they volunteered ever - I personally found volunteering satisfying as an end and the idea of keeping track of every single hour was ridiculous to me. However, if you say you worked 200 hours doing something, you better have an intelligent response when somebody asks you what you did and what you got from it. If you're the guy who wheeled patients around for 200 hours and never spoke a word to them, that will come back to bite you in the ass.
