I was told I should volunteer at the hospital this summer and I would also like to do EMS volunteering as well. However, I am on campus this summer and I do not have a car and I do not know anyone on campus who can give me a ride. The walk to the hospital is about 30 minutes. Should I just suck it up and do the walk. I am applying next summer and would really like to get a head start on the volunteering as soon as possible.

If you aren't willing to walk 30 minutes to volunteer at a hospital I'm not sure if medical school is the right path for you...

If you don't have any clinical experience yet I think you absolutely should. There is simply going to be a limit on how many hours you can get in the next year so you should take what you can get.

Yes... I take 2 hours worth of public transportation to get to a free clinic (3-4 hours total). 30 minutes is nothing, get a bike.

Get a bike to cut down the commute time. You can usually pick up a basic one (and a helmet, you don't want a TBI messing up your med school plans!) for a decent price at Target or Wal-Mart.
