What resources are you all using to study for cardiology? I am especially concerned about heart murmurs. Does UW have multimedia questions similar to step 1? Any good resources for learning heart murmurs ?

Thanks

no UW doesn't. I actually neglected this topic significantly. Luckily I got all three of my media questions related to the easiest heart sound. I would suggest using an internet resource that provides all the heart sounds. Run a search, I know they are out there. Also keep in mind that the question stem is often almost enough or possibly all you really need to answer some of those questions.

Thanks for the response. Can anyone mention some good internet resources - I tried the University of Washington but did not find it too effective.

Yeah, the cardio audio on the Step 1 exam blew baby vomit chunks. Luckily, all 3 of my questions were answerable from the question stem, which provided more than enough clues.

However, other students tell me that their question stems gave them "no info", just the heart diagram with audio. If that's the case, then you're just screwed if you can't detect the minute murmur in the circa 1960's audio quality.

My audio blew giant chunks, and I got virtually no help from the stems. Blah.

I didn't study at all for it and there were only 3 audio questions on mine, with non answerable from the stem. 1 was really easy, patent DA with a machinery murmur. The other 2 were a lot trickier, I got both down to 2 choices, still not sure to this day whether I got them right now not. I remember one was a holosystolic murmur, with VS defect and mitral valve regurg both being answer choices, so you had to distinguish where you heard the murmur and I wasn't sure if I interpreted it correctly.

oh, they didn't give you the anatomical location/area. Without any Past Med Hx, I would think they would have to either say"loudest at apex and radiates towards axilla" for MV Regurge or "harashsounding, loudest at the tricuspid area" for VSD. The ones I hate the most is wehre you have to identify the murmur and look for what most likely caused it. I guess they aren't too bad, just take kinda long.
