Hey all,

I'm a allopathic grad, PGY1 at a community residency program that is university affiliated in the midwest. I'm interested in Cards, have started doing research this year. Hope to get a few publications and posters by application time next year and am actually considering taking an extra year to do more research. Passed my Step exams first try but my scores aren't that great. Obviously I'll take fellowship spot in any good place I can get but for family reasons, I would like to be either in the San Diego area or DC area for fellowship.

1) What are my chances for matching where I want to be?
2) People say research, LORs, networking are very important. How do I improve networking? Is it just by posters/publications? Meeting other cardiologists and program directors at conferences/meetings or through my mentors?
3) Any thoughts on Cards programs in the DC or San Diego area?

Any other tips from ppl who have been in similar position as mine? Thanks for your help!
