Does anyone have any input/feedback or know much about Cardiomart brand stethoscopes? I've seen a lot of them being sold on ebay, and they're generally "modeled after" the Littmann Cardiology III scope. Obviously they can't be nearly as good quality, since they're being sold for ~$25, but how exactly do they stack up in general? Are they a huge rip off?

By the way, if there's a better forum for this to be in, I hope the mods can move it to that more appropriate board. Thanks.

looks like a winner to me. there's no need to spend $150 on a stethoscope. it's about how you use it, not about the brand name stamped on it. besides, these things get lost alot.

Oh, I also came across GrX brand? They have a store in ebay or something, similar deal with the whole imitiation Cariology III it seems. Anyone know about them?

I dunno, I'm sure once you know what you are listening for you can make do with a cheap one, but the other day we had a lab where we were learning to do BPs and our ordered steths hadn't come in yet so they only had a few nice ones to go around and we couldn't hear anyting on the crappy ones. For untrained ear having the best sound possible seems essential to me. And after all the dough you put out between applications and tuition/fees/books etc 150 for a steth really doesn't seem that outrageous at all.

Generally I am a generic kind of guy and eschew big brand merchandise wherever possible (well, except for my DeWalt power tools but let's get real here) but you really do need to get a good Stethoscope. Do a search on the topic. My friend KentW, a Family Medicine attending seems to have a good handle on the subject.

It is probably the only piece of equipment you will carry all the time.
