If you choose to go to pharmacy school, please be careful. They are laying off anyone over 45 as 16000 new candidates graduate yearly. The job market of 300,000 is capped out already and unemployment is already close to 10%.

40 to 50% of those who graduate are unemployed or underemployed. Residencies are scams for cheaper labor, and chains like CVS are openly saying that they will work you 10 hours a day instead of 8 because they can, and make you do free flu shot clinics to meet their metrics.

Pharmacogenomics is a scam, only 2 residencies exist for it and they now have masters programs for it as well. To top it all off no one is getting health insurance benefits anymore. If you choose this profession, be prepared to regret your existence.

If you have any intelligence at all pursue something that has room for growth and wont put you $200,000 in the hole. Otherwise, be prepared to be single until 40 eating off of ramen and mac n' cheese.

You could have at least put sources to where you got these numbers from. Also, there is already a sticky about this so you opening up a troll account was not worth it.

Lol. Sources? Are you a pharmacy professor? This is a web forum, not an academic paper. Maybe I'll throw up some sources after making a bull**** poster presentation. Orrrr these kids who are about to commit 4 years of their lives and 200k+ loans could just look up BLS statistics for the market cap, rate of attrition and gross student acceptance rates. Sigh

He is a self proclaimed troll, it's not worth arguing with him. Everything you said is true.

I'm just trying to help people avoid a massive depressive episode - I hardly have the will to get out of bed anymore. The way healthcare reimbursements work don't reward pharmacists for working in a primary care setting. PAs and ARNPs can do that for cheaper (warfarin clinics, diabetes management). Pharmacists trying to be PAs or MDs just need to go to one of those programs. Please don't be scammed and be a slave to these corrupt corporations (CVS/Walgreens/Hospital Admins looking for 2 years of cheap labor). And if you're only reason for doing pharmacy for "great" worklife, be prepared to work an extra 10-20 hours a week with no pay because you can get threatened to be fired/replaced if your metrics are not on par with what they want. Pharmacy is not what the school system sells you. Six years ago this was not apparent, but today the truth is widely undisputed. Being bilingual will get you hired faster than your GPA and even then you will have desperate people trying to get you fired or take your job because their friends are unemployed.
If you decide you want to go back to hygienist/PA/cardioperusionist/MD/nurse AA after realize that their is a borrowing limit and you wont have the capacity to borrow more. Whatever kiddos. If you want to absolutely regret your life do Pharmacy. Have fun never eating, working 60hrs/week for 40 hours of pay and having varicose veins and a heart attack by 55. Want children? Good luck with the flip-flopping schedules and overnights. Even law that has been completely saturated for years is more promising. A good lawyer can still show value and make an upward of 200 to 500k as partner. A good pharmacist is just someone who can verify + read computer prompts a little quicker and appease the angry drive through customers. Every other healthcare professional knows what's going on in Pharmacy and they feel bad for the ****** we have become.

Are you actually still angry I called you out on your lies? Is it because you talked about something you have no clue on and were schooled on it? It seems like every time you get cornered into a position where you don't have any actual real answers, you just tuck your tails between your legs and run out. Is that why you keep trying to frame me as a troll? Lmao, so sad. I wouldn't be surprised if you were actually still in 11th grade or something.

Its really funny when someone actually wants some real info from you guys but all you guys do is come back with insults about how, "I don't need no proof!" You had a chance to prove yourself. Don't post up those numbers next time, keep it strictly anecdotal. Now you just look like another troll. Just like @mentos . Although everything you said is true, your statements are generalized so you can't be putting up numbers like that. Its like me saying, "Dihydrogen monoxide is really bad. Its responsible for 70% of all deaths in this world. Ban all dihydrogen monoxide."

Once again, another troll thread where everyone just insults you for disagreeing and asking for proof. Remember guys, the burden of proof is on the person who asks for proof. Not the other way around...

Its so sad to see someone hold a grudge against some anonymous person online.
I already apologized for taking down all of your troll threads and troll posts.
But what are you actually mad at me about? Is it because I actually post the truth and you post up lies? Or maybe its because I call you out on all of your posts and you can't actually answer back with anything other than, "Just think about it man." Be a man and address the situation instead of acting like a grade school child.

Any young person who is choosing a career can do a simple google search to cross-reference any statements made here. If I really cared to entertain you to see if water was the major source of death I would do my own research. The only person who asked for "real info" was you... why the hell would I waste my time providing a 7 year member with "proof"? You already know the situation going on. These warnings are here to help people avoid misery, depression and even maybe suicide. Do you even care about that? Maybe one day you'll have a sibling or child in this situation and realize that joblessness or financial ruin is not a pissing contest.

Yeah, you right. Why waste your time fully convincing those new pre pharm students? It would be better to just go halfway and say a lot of negative things, put up some made up numbers, and tell those pre pharm students to just google all those numbers. Why help them at all? Why not just tell them they are idiots and to figure out why we call them that?

This went right over your head as it does with a lot of these troll threads. You see that thread that is stickied? It has actual real numbers. Links to website to further convince students what is being said is ACTUALLY REAL. The person who posted will even offer more info if someone is genuinely curious about all the info.
You look like a troll, your posts are all trollish, people will treat this thread like a troll thread. If you really wanted to help pre pharm students, maybe actually start helping and stop insulting everyone.

Not everything can be quantified. What about the fact that people are accepting students as preceptors for free labor then purposely failing them after not teaching them to bottleneck the profession? Or the poor students who are subpar, not knowing so, then receiving poor letters of rec behind closed doors to get declined job offers? Lots of shady stuff going on that you can't find through an online search. Even job boards have antiquated data out there on salaries. The thing about data that is unreliable is that it changes yearly.

Also if you feel insulted, I'll apologize for that. No one in their right mind would post on their real accounts unless they wanted to compromise their jobs. If I use a fake handle, it's not to be a troll, it's to protect myself in an attempt to share what's going on.

No problem. But I don't think you fully understand me. I am telling you that your strategy to convince pre pharm students isn't going to work. People here seem to think if they repeat something for long enough without any sort of proof of it happening in the real world, it will convince undergrads going into pharmacy to not go. Unfortunately it won't but at the same time, I don't think anything will. The ones that turned away have done their own research. The ones that don't may have done research but decided to just go forward or they didn't do any and am in denial.
I have heard that the number of applicants is getting smaller and pharmacy schools are desperate to fill seats. Thats what I read on this site. Which means that there aren't many kids going into pharmacy at all. So you can take that little info I just told you and feel some peace of mind.

All true but i feel like at this point we are beating a dead horse thats been dead for awhile...

Ive seen several fb posts and read news articles about state reps trying to attack PBMs by amending laws. This is good news although it may take a couple of years to take effect. Lets see how this turns out.

Yea... I like this. Also, I saw that some legislation passed in Illinois regarding pharmacist working conditions.

The 45+ thing isn't really true but may be dependent on location. I do know that some of the chains are actively letting people go, mainly those that have a higher than salary than most others and it coincidentally is mostly those at that age range because they've been at that company long enough so that their salary is much higher than the average new grad nowadays. They give the option to reapply at a lower salary mostly matching that of new grads but a bit higher. Unfortunately, unless they put some strict regulations on PBMs pretty much screwing over pharmacist, it won't get worse as pharmacies are actively cutting hours and finding ways to lower wages overall in order to stay in profit or not go bankrupt.

The grocery store chains are starting to catch on too.....The so called increase in traffic isn't paying the costs.....That leaves..... tank the expenses or close the joint..

I'll agree with the statements outlining that the pharmacists with the higher salaries are getting fired for pay rate and probably not age. But to make things more complex, now that pharmacies have pulled back on tech hours and manpower and have us operating on bare minimum, what makes you think that once the PBM reimbursement problem gets resolved pay rates will go back up or staffing will increase for that matter? Corporations now know we can be conditioned to work at these levels. And if we burn out? So what? Another fleet of "eager" new graduates who believe they can advocate for change will be lined up and ready to go. It's really a shame. The government should bail out these kids who have lost years of their life who can have been working elsewhere and building retirement funds. But that's a matter for another day. Glad I atleast got a few years of the six figure salaries which those entering the field may never see.

And get some senna Kot cuz thats a constipating diet.....lol

but seriously, we dont have much time left. As far as i can tell, these guys wanna get into the doctor business with their "health clinics". Wal mart is leading the way so far with that concept in Georgia. a one stop, chop shop for ALL your medical needs, fast and affordable. Pharmacy is simply not profitable enough and the profit is too darn hard to make now....they want an exit strategy just like us!

read the article and tell me where pharmacy fits into this picture? i'm not saying they wont have a pharmacy, but how many and where is another story...all the major chains are doing this as you can read and PHARMACY is definitely NOT at the forefront/focus of what they are doing....THIS is the future for the chains and healthcare.... its all right here.

I don't lie and I don't get angry at trolls. You are the one who admitted to trolling, not me.

Honestly, I am fueling this troll thread by trolling you trying to troll me. Mods should close or delete this thread at some point.

Have fun trolling, I will no longer be replying to your troll posts. Have a nice day!

Lmao, thats what you said last thread when I shut you down for trolling. And the first thing you did in this thread is go after me. And now you say you aren't angry at me. At this point you are just coping and trying to save face. This is actually the first time I got a troll to stop trolling me.

Why do you think they will listen to you? Did YOU listen when you read all the warnings on here? People have been warning about the coming glut since like 2008. You didn't listen and few other students will listen either.

Are you using a VPN? I'll guess no, which means fake account or not, your IP address will give you away. There is NO privacy on the internet, but few people believe that either, no matter how many times they hear the warning.

BLS statistics when I went to school showed a 33% growth rate and deficit in diabetes educators. Two years later that changed and endless mergers occured as well as the firing of senior Pharmacists. Then $40/hour lowballs and part time work with no benefits. If had known this was going to be the outcome I wouldnt have chosen to do this path from a more logical standpoint. Hell, a trucker or US postman starts off 10 years younger with 90k a year salaries, can sit down and doesnt have 2 phones rining and 4 waiters at 2 cashiers and 2 drive throughs while having to give shots to two people and 6 waiters. I'm not going to complain with my first world problems when there are people starving in Africa, but I dont expect to ever pay my loans off, have a nice car, big home, several kids or the quality of life I expected years ago. If people want to go for pharmacy, let them go for it, but they have the ability to make a more informed decision than I did with the information available.

When did you go to school? The "doom and gloom" and "negativity" threads have been on SDN for years.
