Caribbean Anesthesiologist

my fiances dad practices in Ohio he graduated from San Pedro in the Dom. Rep. he said it was almost impossible to do a residency. From what I gather it mostly depends on the program in which your trying to get into? Thanks. Happy 4th! Hopefully your all having a better one than me, im studying.

The guy that made me think about anesthesia during my first rotation as a 3rd year med student was doing his anesthesia residency at SLU. He was from one of those carribean schools - I think Ross.
He was a crazy australian with a funny accent and a lovely wife. I loved the guy. I guess I owe him a lot since before he talked to me about what we all actually do, I thought it would be absolutely ******ed to go into anesthesia.

I was in the same class as Swaydaa, and we both did quite well in the Match. I'm just starting my CA-2 year at a large University-based program in the northeast. It was a great choice. We even have one faculty who went to a Carib school, and he is one of our better anesthesiologists.
I would suspect that most of the Caribbean grads in training and practicing are from either St. Georges, Ross, or AUC.

AUC grad, CA-1 now.
Interviewed at some "namely" places, and decided DMC was for me. Penn state, UCLA, BU, Indie just to name a few. Board exams play a big role.

What board scores would you say were competitive for a Carib school at those places??? and what did u think of the BU program?
Dude from my residency was supposedly headed down there to practice. Derek Jones. Cool fella. Wonder if he is practicing down there...

BU was ok. I didn't get a very good feel for resident happiness b/c they were all overworked, and didn't have time to talk to us. The program itself seems to produce good anesthesiologists, and the group that practiced there hired from their own residents... who made fat $$. They have a phenomenal AV-room that is state of the art, as well as other toys b/c the PP group that runs the program is quite well off financially.
Check my old posts, though. I believe I left a review after I left.
230's was the number in my class. Virtually all the carib grads I know that matched were in that range. I was 235.
I ended up at DMC b/c I felt it was a great fit. Happy residents, good scheduling, great cases, sick population, morbidly obese females who need epidurals, close to home. Also, there are a few attendings here who have great connections (perov, chidiac, rusin), and can get you into virtually any PP, or fellowship in this region. It provides me with the perfect combination of "who/what to know" to realize my ultimate dream. If you'd like more info, lemme know.
