Caribbean Med Students and Tests

I am really depressed that I didn't get into any med schools here in the US. Therefore I have decided to go to caribbean.
I know that those students are considered forgien grads however I saw that for the schools such as SGU and AUC, students have been able to get all kinds of residencies. Is there anyone who had or is having trouble getting residency after going to one of the BIG FOURS?

My other question is that do carib. students have to go through more tests than students in the US? I know that they have to take USMLEs but are there any other tests?

It depends on what residency you want. Primary care is easy to get into and often pre match offers are given. Others Derm, Ortho, Rads, EM, Anesthesia, ENT, Urology etc are harder to get into. You can look at the residency list for each school on their website (give you an idea where their students match).

As far as testing goes we take the same tests (USMLEs). Each school may require more testing (AUC requires NBME shelf exams) but this for the school only not required by any states.

If you are considering the Caribbean route I would suggest going to valuemd.com and reading as much as you can.

What are you saying? All Physicians who want to practice in the US be it a FMG or US grad take the same USMLE test. Period.

The tests you take are the USMLE steps 1, 2ck, 2cs and 3. The USMLE tests are the same for FMG or USMG. The tests that don't count towards the USMLE are the Shelf exams if you school requires them. They are only meant as a measure of the students progress.
