Someone sent this to me today after the first round results came out. Likewise our program coordinator at Queen's FM told us that all of FM cleaned out (as noted in this list below). Hope this helps those that "scramble" Canadian style. Good luck!

Does anyone have the list for vacant positions for second round of Carms for this year 2009?

Thanks!

Honestly, there are so many unfilled positions this year, it's crazy.

I can't speak to the other programs, but here's a few highlights from Internal Medicine:

Of 30 total spots, 5 at Western are unfilled.
Of 15 total spots, 8 at Queen's are unfilled.
Of 45 total spots, 15 at UBC are unfilled.

Plus many others... Sherbrooke essentially did not fill any positions -- for all of you with French skills!

In short, a LOT of program directors are in panic mode right now to get staffing for next year. Although all these spots are allocated for "Canadian Medical Grads", most CMGs have already matched so these will most likely convert into scramble positions after Round Two finishes up. I wouldn't hesitate to try to start making deals now.

Good luck.

First of all, Nobody will be match in Sherbrooke cause they Hate (and I speak by experience) foreign medical graduate. Even though spots are available and people have had there equivalence from the College des Médecins du Quebec, most of the spots will not be filled in regardless.

Second please refer to statistic of Carms (at Carms.ca) as your chances of having a residency position lat year in Canada was about 6%!

Canada is not a place friendly to foreign medical graduate and I encourage people to focus on different alternatives.

I may open a can of worms with this ...

I can agree with this in part ... there are really good stories/percentages for certain areas of the world - eg, UK, Ireland, Australia, NZ ... obviously better percentages than from other parts of the world except for Canadian entrant stats; they sway the results of that "6%" that CaRMS speaks about.

Also hearing that many of the Canadian-born/Irish trained docs get into a specialty in the first or second round (and yes, many ARE HAPPY with their match) ...

I speak this as a Canadian-IMG that trained at an Irish med school: now seeing this from the "outside" and now the inside for the past three years (reading over/marking the CaRMS applications for both CMGs and IMGs then doing the Canadian and IMG interviews).
