Just a quick question. Do Canadian residency programs accept USMLE EXAMS in lieu of CaRMS? I think US programs accept CaRMS. Correct me if I'm wrong.
CaRMS is the service that orchestrates the Canadian resident match (aka the CaRMS match or the match; see
carms.ca). All residency positions are offered through CaRMS - there are no "out-of-match" or "pre-match" positions available.
To apply to match through CaRMS, as an IMG, you must have the MCQEE (aka EE or the evaluating exam, see
http://www.mcc.ca/en/exams/ee/). If you are an US allopathic grad, you do NOT need the MCQEE (osteopathic grads and IMGs must pass the EE
well in advance of applying). Note that to apply to Canadian residencies you must also be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident.
Once you are in a Canadian residency program, you must write the MCCQE
Part I and
Part II, regardless of whether or not you have your USMLEs. ALL residents MUST complete these. The only exception is if you intend NOT to practice in Canada when you finish (e.g. you've come from a Gulf State to train, and will be returning there when you are done).
