Hello,

I am planning to apply to dental schools this year, however I do have a mild case of carpal tunnel. How serious of a problem can this be when applying to schools? I have heard symptoms do worsen and it does put dentists into early retirement? Should I not consider dentistry at all??

That can indeed be a problem... Manual dexterity is a must for most aspects of dentistry.

If I was in your shoes, I'd consult a physician first to see whether not the condition can be treated and managed successfully.

Do you ever wear a brace?
I find this helps me a lot. I use to have a mild case of carpel tunnel, but once I started wearing a brace each night, I noticed a major improvement!

That isn't the route to go at this point. What you should do is consult your physician and learn how to manage your symptoms to the best of your ability. Often those symptoms can be remedied if procedures are applied early enough.

Hi guys

Thanks for the reassurance , just saw my doctor today and told me not to worry about it (mild case) and can be mannaged, although i have to wear the brace for 3 weeks 24/7, and take meds.
